Children and Young Person's Support Worker



Hours:

35 per week

Location:

Torfaen, covering the Gwent Region

Salary:

23,500 per annum, pro-rated (rising to 24,000 following successful completion of a 6-month probationary period)

Contract:

Fixed term until 31st March 2026

All team members must work flexibly on occasions to meet the needs of the Charity and the people we support

Purpose of the Post:

Provide specialist support to children and young people who are affected by Domestic Abuse and sexual violence and/or are at high-risk of serious harm in their own relationship.


Cyfannol Women's Aid implements support for children and young people who have experienced or witnessed domestic abuse. We deliver tailored and individual pathways for children and young people that build on their strengths. Support provided is person-focused and trauma-informed.


The support offered will include 1-2-1 intensive support, group work, and focus groups for children and young people aged between 5 and 18.


Group work focuses on building self-esteem, communication skills, supports emotional regulation, and we also provide support around adolescent-to-parent violence (aged 11 to 16)


The project will work with academic partners to evaluate the project and with children and young people to develop and facilitate training resources to professionals




Specific Responsibilities




Work with families, children, and young people in a trauma-informed, empowering, and solution-focused approach To engage with children, young people, and their families, carry out person-led assessments of risks, needs, and strengths. To develop a person-led, detailed support package for the child/young person, identifying goals, aspirations, and needs. Facilitate group programmes or 1-1 support with children and young people between the ages of 5-18 who have experienced or witnessed domestic abuse as required. Support families in identifying and addressing issues relating to their children and support resilient and healthy relationships, and the welfare of children and young people. Work with young people in an empowering, solution focused and individually appropriate engaging manner, building positive relationships based on trust and respect Develop local focus groups where children and young people can contribute to the development of the project. Attend and advocate for young people at multi agency meetings Provide practical and emotional support, including advocacy to access wider services (health, CAMHs, education/employment, youth provision, housing & welfare). Work alongside young people in developing resources, group sessions, and toolkits. Co-facilitate training for professionals with young people To liaise with external agencies to identify children who may benefit from the project Prioritising and managing caseloads in line with packages of support and support plans Ensure accurate and timely records are maintained in relation to all aspects of the service and case work, including inputting information into our Information Management System. To be fully aware of the child and adult safeguarding policy and procedures and report to line manager any concerns in this area. To advocate on behalf of children and young people and ensure that children feel safe, supported and listened to within our service and in dealings with other agencies. To participate in meetings, encourage children and young people to participate in and give feedback on service provision. Assist in qualitative and quantitative data collation. Promote the service in the local area.
