Job Summary

We are seeking a proactive, hands-on Yard Manager to oversee operations across two yards, with a primary base at our main depot near Heathrow. This is a critical support role to keep our Traffic Management (TM) operations running smoothly.

Duties

Oversee the daily operations of the yard, ensuring that all activities are conducted safely and efficiently. Manage logistics related to the transportation of goods, including scheduling and coordinating shipments. Supervise yard staff, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance and adherence to company standards. Implement and maintain warehouse management systems (WMS) for optimal inventory control and tracking. Monitor profit loss metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement cost-saving measures. Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies within the yard environment. Facilitate continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational processes and efficiency. Monitor and manage stock levels across two depots. Prepare temporary traffic light systems for site operatives. Make and assemble temporary road signage. Order equipment, tools, and materials as needed. Perform minor repairs and maintenance on equipment. Keep the yard organized, clean, and safe. Be proactive in spotting potential issues and resolving them before they become problems.

Requirements

Proven experience in a supervisory role within a warehouse or logistics environment. Strong knowledge of transportation management systems and shipping/receiving processes. Familiarity with profit loss analysis and its application in operational decision-making. Previous experience in a similar yard/warehouse/operations role (TM industry experience a bonus, but not essential). A hands-on, can-do attitude with a proactive approach. Good organization and time management skills. Some basic handyman/DIY skills for minor repairs and signage preparation. Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team. Full UK driving licence (preferred but not essential). Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail. Ability to work weekends if and when necessary, this will be paid as overtime on top of salary. Start time 06:30 - Finishing time 16:30.
