Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Yard Manager to oversee the daily operations of our yard facility. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing logistics, supervising staff, and ensuring efficient business processes within the supply chain. This role is crucial for maintaining a smooth operational flow and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Yard Manager from a similar high-risk, recycling or metal manufacturing background.

Duties

Safety Management

Enforce and promote strict adherence to health and safety policies and procedures. Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits. Ensure all yard activities comply with environmental, HSE, and waste management regulations. Act swiftly to resolve any safety issues or incidents

Operational Oversight

Coordinate the daily running of the yard including material flow, storage, and loading/unloading operations. Monitor and manage the movement of vehicles and heavy plant machinery. Ensure materials are stored and processed in accordance with regulations and site standards.

Team Leadership

Supervise yard operatives and machine operators. Organise rotas, delegate tasks, and conduct performance reviews. Provide on-the-job training and support for team members. Foster a positive and productive working environment. Arrange and organise any overtime requirements within the logistics department. Manage all yard employees covering shifts 06.00-2pm, 12noon-8pm, 09pm-05.00am. Ensuring all yard employees are completing all yard duties efficiently. Organise employee training for yard site machinery (Refresher training and familiarisation training)

Inventory and Equipment Management

Maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing materials. Ensure all machinery and equipment are properly maintained and inspected. Liaise with maintenance teams and contractors as needed.

Compliance and Reporting

Keep up to date with changes in legislation affecting the recycling and waste management industry. Prepare regular reports on yard performance, incidents, and materials handled. Work closely with compliance officers and environmental agencies during inspections.

Skills

Proven experience in supervising teams within a warehouse or logistics environment. Strong understanding of supply chain management principles and practices. Familiarity with AS400 systems or similar warehouse management software is advantageous. Demonstrated ability to analyse business processes and implement improvements effectively. Excellent organisational skills with a keen attention to detail. Strong communication skills, capable of liaising with various stakeholders effectively. Ability to work under pressure while maintaining high standards of safety and efficiency.
