Welfare Support Officer Job description

We are recruiting two Welfare Support Officers to join the Council\'s Housing Service.
The Council\'s Housing Options Service works with households who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. There are several teams within the service including the Housing Options Team who work to prevent households from becoming homeless and to help those who are homeless to find new accommodation, the Allocations Team who manage the Council\'s housing register, the Rough Sleeper Pathway Team who engage with rough sleepers to support them through a three-stage rehabilitative pathway and the UK Resettlement Team who support those resettling in the UK through the government resettlement schemes.
The Welfare Support Officer will work with vulnerbale households requiring support to enable them to sustain their tenancies, or with households resettling under the UK Resettlement schemes. You should have a good understanding of the support available to assist households with a range of issues, including excellent welfare benefits knowledge and the ability to support with and signpost to services who can provide support with education, employment, drug and alcohol support and domestic abuse, for example.
