Abbey House Vets are looking for an experienced and dedicated Patient Care Assistant to join their night team. In this role you will have the opportunity to enhance your veterinary patient care skills.


You will join a fully staffed dedicated night team including 1 veterinary surgeon, 1 Registered Veterinary Nurse on for the full night, with additional support from student nurses and other Patient Care Assistants at peak times. There will be plenty of support as you start this role with a dedicated buddy and regular check in with your line manager.


The right candidate should have experience working night shifts (or part night shifts) before, or previous animal/veterinary experience.


Your night role will include supporting reception cover during busy periods, dispensing medication, walking and recording vital paramotors of all inpatients (with support of Vet Nurse), preparing for surgeries in the night and the following morning whilst maintaining high levels of infection control.


The rota is 7 days on (7pm-8am) and 14 days off which starts on a Monday.

Roles and Responsibilities



Assist with patient handling and restraint. Ensuring that all handling and restraint is carried out in a 'patient friendly' approach to ensure no unnecessary stress or discomfort to the patient. Involvement with handling medications and preparing these for dispensing. Prepare and maintain patient accommodation considering the condition and welfare of the patient, environmental enrichment and additional supporting aids as necessary. Cleaning and disinfection of patient accommodation and all necessary areas of the practice. In-patient care to include exercising, feeding, and grooming of hospitalized patients. Cleaning, packaging and sterilization of sterile supplies. Assist the Veterinary Surgeons, Registered and Student Veterinary Nurses, Reception staff and any other team member who requires support, where and when required.
