Role: Tutor in Music on Screen at Edinburgh College of Art

Grade UE06: Salary Range \xc2\xa331,396 to \xc2\xa336,024 Pro-rata

A minimum of 20 hours will be offered between: September - December

The Opportunity:

The Reid School of Music is looking for applications for a tutor to support students in creating video and/or written essays for the Music on Screen course (Semester 1, 2023/24). Assistance is required in relation to the technical aspect of capturing/editing AV material as well as supporting students in conceiving essay topics and applying theoretical ideas from the course in their analyses. Tutoring will mostly be focused on the period from the middle to the end of Semester 1 (i.e. not in the first few weeks). Expertise: ideally you will have produced a video essay and be familiar with theoretical concepts in screen music and sound studies. At the very least applicants should have an awareness of the video essay format as a form of research output (and the variety of approaches to this format). Successful applicants will be able to effectively and patiently communicate how to capture and manipulate audio-visual materials using Premiere alongside free software such as Handbrake and MPegStreamclip. They will have particular knowledge and experience of video editing transitions, and will know how to produce split screens and titles. Depending on experience, successful applicants will also assist in marking student work.
