Tutor Ba Architecture Skills

Manchester, United Kingdom

Job Description

TUTOR IN ARCHITECTURE - BA ARCHITECTURE - SKILLS TEACHING

Joining the Manchester School of Architecture as a Tutor in Architecture you will be responsible for teaching skills to either the first or second year of our BA Architecture programme.

The Studio Skills sessions are an exciting platform where students experiment with a variety of techniques in order to produce work at a fast pace, whilst improving their design skills. They are conceived as a continuation of the typical design studio experience.

Skills activities include: site analysis and survey techniques, sketching, hand technical drawing, digital and physical modelmaking, photography, photocollage techniques, time management, team/group working, and academic writing skills. In addition to this numerous software introductions are given, including Adobe creative suite, Sketchup, and Autocad.

The successful candidate should demonstrate evidence of teaching in Architecture at undergraduate and/or postgraduate students and should have the capacity to manage digital and analogue skills in terms of drawings and support students in finding valuable resources to complete their design studio outputs. The Skills tutor has to deliver lectures covering multidisciplinary architecture skills and lead the workshop skills session helping students to find tools and complete their tasks. A successful candidate needs to understand the Studio skills session as an extension of the typical studio day.

Skills sessions are usually on Wednesday morning and delivered in-person. Tutors are expected to work half a day per week (3.5 hours) for 26 weeks per year. Within the workload allocated to their roles, tutors could potentially be asked to prepare and deliver lectures to undergraduate students on topics such as architectural design methods, aesthetics and design, and structures and materials.
