Job Description

Purpose of Role



To contribute to the strong governance of Northern Ireland Hospice, working at a strategic level to ensure that the organisation meets its charitable objectives. To deliver the duties and responsibilities of a Company Director as set out in the Companies Act(s) and those of a Trustee, as required by law and the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland.




Experience Required

Experience of working at a senior management or governance level. This can be in the voluntary, public or private sectors. Experience of operating at a strategic level, including strategic planning and development. Experience in executive level financial decision making and have a high degree of financial acumen. Expertise in customer relationship management and knowledge of digital development and digital transformation strategies.

Key requirements for the role include:

To ensure that processes and procedures are in place to deliver high standards of professional, clinical, administrative and personal behaviours across the organisation. To contribute to, and ensure the necessary resources are in place to support the development of plans for service development and improvement. To ensure that quality controls and systems of risk management are robust and effective. To monitor the performance of the Hospice against standards and ensure that it provides quality care, balanced with the effective, efficient and economic use of the Hospice's resources and assets. To attend the Care Quality Committee, a governance sub-group of the Board of Trustees. To use their medical knowledge to help the Board of Trustees reach decisions, providing support and guidance to the Medical Lead and wider medical team
