We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated paediatric doctor to join our team as a fellow in simulation and education in paediatrics. This post is ideal for a senior Paediatric or Emergency Medicine trainee (ST3+) looking to develop their portfolio in leadership, education and management skills that will be invaluable to you as a new consultant.
Applicants will be supported in developing an area of interest from these available opportunities. We welcome all applicants to this post and are willing to discuss flexible working arrangements and flexible start dates. We run a self-rostered rota for all our clinical fellows.
The post holder will work their contracted hours on a dedicated Paediatric ED middle grade rota and will gain experience and training in managing medically unwell children as well as injured children in a busy Trauma Unit, which is part of the North East London Trauma Network. The successful candidate will be supported by a team of three Paediatric Emergency Medicine consultants and seventeen adult Emergency Medicine consultants, and will provide advice, teaching and supervision to more junior colleagues in the Paediatric Emergency Department.
The paediatrics team at North Middlesex hospital has a well-established in-situ simulation programme from the inpatient unit. Within the paediatric ED, we have been eagerly increasing the simulation teaching where an active team of facilitators and equipment resources exist. The successful candidate will be involved in expanding the provision of education in the service and help develop more MDT learning opportunities within all relevant specialties.
The paediatric department is committed to training and education, and is recognised as one of the best training sites in London, winning the RCPCH 'PAFTA' for best training centre in 2017 and 2020. The successful applicant will be encouraged to attend weekly paediatric teaching and regional training days, and will also be expected to contribute to the provision of teaching to members of the multidisciplinary team. The trust runs major resuscitation courses and has a newly refurbished simulation suite with an active ED simulation faculty. The department has a strong drive towards Quality Improvement to shape the future of the department through guideline and pathway development and project work, with supported training for this. There is a lot of activity within the sphere of child protection and a wealth of senior experience in this area to learn from; we benefit from extremely close links with our local safeguarding team. The department is a member site of PERUKI participating in national and international research projects.
Roles and responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to;
Provision and maintenance of a high standard of care for all patients in the Paediatric Emergency Department.
Effective communication with medical and nursing staff of other disciplines, ancillary workers, and paramedics in the interest of achieving efficient management of patients.

Facilitating education of designated junior staffing, inclusive of the nursing staff within the department.
Assisting the Consultant team in promoting health care to the department's patients in both a friendly and caring way.
Having a leading role in resuscitation and trauma calls within the service.
