Is it time to transfer to rural policing?

We have exciting new opportunities for Constables to transfer to Police Scotland for posts in our island communities of Shetland and Orkney

If you\'re a serving officer in a recognised Home Office Police Force in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, or the British Transport Police, you can be considered to transfer to Police Scotland. You must have a minimum of three years\' service and be free from any outstanding complaints.

Police Scotland\'s planned police officer intake for January 2024 has been postponed.

This is to facilitate an operational requirement for training staff to support frontline policing during the busy festive period from December 2023 into January 2024.

However, we are continuing to accept transferee applications while the planned intakes over the rest of the year are reprofiled.

You should have been resident in the UK for a minimum of three years immediately prior to application for this role.

Training

Transferee officers now receive their training locally. The duration of training is based on the arrangements put in place at the division you are posted to.

Generally speaking this will involve local induction and mentoring by a local officer.

Please note, you will require the following detail to complete this application form; NI Number, ID detail, address information. You will be asked for a copy of your passport or other ID documents such as birth certificate.

As a transferee applicant you will also be required to provide the follwoing information as part of the application
  • Copies of your PDRS/appraisals from the last 3 years or sufficient alternative evidence
  • A copy of training record information
  • Any qualifications including police vocational
  • If transferring in rank, confirmation of promotion qualifications
  • Email address and details for your line manager
  • Email address and details for a force referee minimum rank of Chief Inspector
  • HR mailbox details
  • Finance mailbox details
You may also be requested to provide photos of any visible tattoos you have.
