Description of the Business Line or DepartmentGBSU/FTB, London is a Support Unit providing Risk Management, Loan Agency, Operational and IT support to the Global Banking (GLBA) activities of SG in the UK. Broadly speaking, the Risk Management, Loan Agency and Operational support activities are organised under GBSU/FTB/EUR and the IT support under GBSU/FTB/OSD. GBSU/FTB/EUR is positioned as a Middle Office and responsible for the support of specific London based Front Office Divisions of GLBA (primarily AFI, IBD & NAT). GBSU/FTB/EUR, London comprises a staff of c20 personnel and is structured as 3 Teams:
SSM (Structured Solution and Mobility Finance Middle Office)
SMO cover circa 10 Business Lines across the relevant GBLA Divisions, whereas SSM is Business Line specific to GLBA/AFI/SSM The core missions of GBSU/FTB/EUR are to:
Engage with GLBA at the outset of new transactions to opine on operational feasibility, review credit applications and term sheets, opine on legal documentation
Manage the Closing processes upon deal execution
Act as a conduit and coordinator between London FO and Paris/Bangalore based Back Offices
Post-execution risk management incl. Risk Reviews, managing Waiver and Amendments, Covenant and Rating follow-up
Operational follow up, Data Quality, RWA, Collateral Management
Loan Agency; including Facility Agent, Security Trustee and Account Bank (Currently around 40 Agency roles)
For SSM specifically; managing the UK Finance Lease Portfolio, incl., management of UK leasing subsidiaries, SPVs, support of booking platforms (Luxemburg, Hong Kong, etc.)
Previously operating as a single Team, in Jun-22 the SMO Middle Office was sub-divided into 2 distinct functions RM (Risk Management) and AOM (Agency & Operational Management) in order to:
create segregation between the Credit Risk Management and Agency functions
better align resource to functions performed
enable performance efficiencies through clearer roles and responsibilities
The sub-division of SMO follows previous transformative actions including the transfer of Closing tasks to the Middle Office and is designed to enhance overall operational efficiency. Collectively the GBSU/FTB/EUR, London Team of financing and credit professionals manage a portfolio of over 300 transactions with total loan assets (gross outstanding) of cEUR12bn (figs. as at Q1-2022). It is both an internal and external client facing Department will regular (daily) interface with the following stakeholders:
Front Office origination teams
Borrowers
Syndicate banking partners
Professional advisers / Sponsors
Internal risk department (RISQ)
Back Office teams (DMT)
Legal (both internal and external counsel) & Compliance
GBSU/FTB/OSD, London is the IT support function within GBSU/FTB, London The core missions of FTB/OSD in London are:
Support Syndication Activity: create/enhance existing syndication tools for functional, regulatory or strategic requirements
Support Leasing Activity: primarily the ALFA application for GLBA/AFI/SSM
Vendor Management: supporting applications and managing the relationships with Vendors and act as PLO on associated contracts
Innovation for Syndication: create innovative solutions and features to support in the syndication process
The Team comprises c18 Staff (including the Department Head) split between the UK (6) and Bangalore (12) The GBSU/FTB/OSD Team collectively comprise of IT experts, analysts and developers and remain under the hierarchical management of IT. Summary of the key purposes of the role GBSU/FTB/EUR SMO RM This is a Support Unit Team managing Credit and Operational Risk across the various Business Lines of GLBA in London including:
Project Finance (Including Power, Metals and Mining, Oil & Gas, and Infrastructure)
Leverage Finance

The key functions of the RM role include (but are not limited to):
Collaborating with FO, and other internal stakeholders (incl. SMO AOM) as necessary, on proposed transactions to opine on operational feasibility, reviewing credit applications, term sheets, draft legal documentation etc
Post-closing Credit Risk Management of Deal Life Cycle Events
Summary of responsibilities The key responsibilities of the RM role include (but are not limited to):
Reviewing of Loan Documentation and related Legal contracts
Analysis of Financial Statements
Drafting of quarterly and/or annual portfolio review documents
Report on construction progress or operating performance of the assets financed
Identify industry trends
Run sensitivity analysis on financial forecasts and models
Assess country, market, and environmental risks
Liaising, as required with external parties; Borrowers, Banks, Technical/Legal Advisors, Insurers, Valuers, etc.
Liaising, as required with internal stakeholders; Front Office, Back Office, RISQ, Legal, Compliance, DFIN, etc
