Opened in late Summer 2018 after a complete renovation and expansion, The Machrie features 45 beautifully designed rooms, suites and lodges, some with their own outdoor terraces and stunning views across the Links. Other than our stunning 18-hole Championship Links, we also have the Wee Course, a six- hole, par-3 course which can be played from different tees. A first-class short game area with putting green that allows you to test all the shots you can ever imagine needing on the course. Our all-weather, 5-bay driving range is accompanied by an indoor golf studio which includes a Trackman Golf Simulator to fully analyse your swing and finally, the beautiful Hebrides putting course.
What is offered?
The Golf Operations Internship programme will cover areas from marketing initiatives, retail management, running and planning golf days, Trackman use, event planning and administration; as well as training in customer services and health safety.
What will I learn? Demonstrate the ability to exceed guest expectations by delivering above and beyond first class customer service and anticipating customer/guest needs. Fundamentals of operating a Golf Academy, Retail shop, Golf Club Membership and facilities management. Hands on experience of day-to-day service of the golf operation. Plan, prepare and help action golf events, liaising with the Event Coordinator and various department managers as appropriate. Attend executive management meetings and develop supervisory skills understanding how to manpower plan, rota and organise a daily shift. Support with interview skills and CV development. Present a project to the executive team at the end of your internship.

On-site shared accommodation is provided to give the interns the opportunity to meet each other, making friendships and memories that will last long after their time at The Machrie has finished as well as enjoying Islay life..

Travelling to Islay Islay is easy to get to with a direct Citylink bus from Buchanan Street, Glasgow to the ferry terminal at Kennacraig or two daily 30 min flights from Glasgow.
The Machrie With panoramic views across the golf links to the idyllic 7 miles of silver sands at Laggan Bay the hotel only opened late 2018 but already has been recognised as "Scottish Hotel of the Year 2020" and our historic golf links today is ranked in the top 20 courses in Scotland. Hotel facilities include our iconic Restaurant 18 and Stag Lounge with panoramic views across the golf links out to the west and also benefits from the spectacular evening sunsets. The Kildalton room can be used for meetings, small private dinners and weddings, our courtyard is great for summer barbecues and the Snug for private whisky tastings. There is also a small screening room (cinema) for 35 people and small Spa with a gym, sauna and two treatment rooms. Our golf facilities include the renowned 18 hole Machrie Links, founded in 1891 it is now ranked in the top 20 courses in Scotland and the Islay Golf Club still operates from The Machrie today. Complimenting the links is our 6 hole, par 3 Wee Course, driving range and teaching studio.
