Derby Museums was established as an independent charitable trust in 2012 to manage the city\' museum sites and to care for collections of cultural heritage on behalf of Derby City Council. It has a trading arm, Derby Museum Enterprises. In 2021 it opened the award winning Museum of Making at Derby Silk Mill. It has the finest collection of work by Joseph Wright of Derby, the 18th century artist of the Enlightenment, and is \'Designated\' by Arts Council England as a collection of national significance. It has been recognised for its innovative practice, particularly in the area of co-production and community development.
Ten years on the organisation needs a review. Derby Museums has achieved significant successes, but now faces existential challenges. Over the last decade, the external economic, social and political environment has changed dramatically. Ten years of austerity have made the organisation vulnerable through large reductions in public revenue funding. More immediately, high inflation and the energy crisis have increased costs at a time when income has declined.
We\'re looking for creative and grounded consultant(s) to help us build future sustainability and success.
