Location: Woodhatch Place, 11 Cockshot Hill, Woodhatch, Reigate, Surrey
About the role
The starting salary for this role is \xc2\xa343,923 per annum for working 36 hours per week.
At Surrey, our vision is to help create better lives, a better place, and a county where no-one is left behind. To help deliver this vision we are committed to transforming the way the Council manages and uses data and creates insight.
As a Technical Business Analyst, you will assist and inspire the organisation to improve the governance and management of its data. You will join a new data team - established to deliver our SCC Data Strategy - and will contribute towards shaping our work, priorities, and ambitions.
Training and development
The data team works closely with colleagues in Digital and IT. This provides a range of opportunities for joint activities to share your learning with others and build your own skill set. There are also significant opportunities for personal and professional development through the Business Analyst practice community and broader training.
You will be well supported and offered the training and coaching required to undertake this role.
Work location
This is a hybrid role and you will have the option of working from home for the majority of your week. You will be expected to attend the office when business need requires you to do so; we anticipate this will be approximately 3 times per month. Many of our staff also work flexibly, including term-time only, so we welcome a conversation as to what might work best for you.
About the role
In the role of Technical Business Analyst, you will apply your skills to a wide range of projects, from identifying opportunities where master data will bring organisational benefit to investigating data and process issues. There will be several projects running in parallel so you will be comfortable working at pace and organising your time.
The role will involve engaging with stakeholders from across the organisation and you will build trust and rapport quickly and effectively. You will be communicating back to the team and back out to the stakeholders about what you have discovered.
About you
A proactive and innovative individual, you will be a team player with some previous experience of working as a Business Analyst on data, digital or technical projects. You will have some familiarity with building data models; documenting data flows; data dictionaries; and data warehouses. In addition, you\'ll be proficient in Visio (or similar) and using SQL (or equivalent) to manipulate and explore data.
You will also be experienced in gathering, interpreting, and using data to generate requirements and actionable steps to deliver projects and improve systems and processes. As well as this, you will understand the relationship between poorly designed business processes, data capture processes and bad data quality. This will be a hands-on role and you will be required to use workshops to document and improve processes.
You will consider the needs of the end user to be at the centre of everything we design. With well-developed problem-solving skills, you will work with a structured and methodical approach to distinguish the root cause of a problem from symptoms.
Your excellent written and verbal communication skills will make you confident in working with diverse groups of stakeholders such as council employees (including technical Digital and IT staff), elected members, suppliers, and residents. You will be skilled at both applying different techniques to elicit business or data requirements and communicating these requirements to other team members.
As part of the application process, you will be asked to answer the following questions along with uploading your CV: * Tell us about a data, digital or technical project that required you to use both Business Analysis and Technical/Data Analysis skills.
