Audiologists are Healthcare Scientists, professionals who provide hearing assessment, diagnosis and rehabilitation services within the NHS and private sector. The Audiology teaching programmes are based with the Ellen Wilkinson Building as part of Manchester Centre for Audiology and Deafness (ManCAD). In order to support these teaching programmes in Audiology and Deaf Education we are looking to appoint a full time Teaching Technician on a 24-months fixed term contract. The main purpose of the role is to ensure that the specialist equipment required for delivery of these programmes is well maintained, correctly calibrated and that supplies of consumable items are available as required.
The post holder will be responsible for organizing, setting up and testing the wide range of audiological equipment and consumables required to deliver the laboratory-based teaching sessions that make up key elements of all the Audiology and Deaf Education programmes. They will be responsible for ensuring that the teaching rooms are fully equipped and fit for purpose at all times, including housekeeping duties required to maintain high standards required for training students for clinical practice. The post holder will be expected to have knowledge or experience setting up and maintaining audiological equipment, including carrying out stage A checks and stage B calibration to British and International standards, fault-finding and basic repairs to equipment as appropriate and liaising with equipment manufacturers to ensure equipment is kept up to date. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and organized individual with a relevant technical support background and an understanding of the technical and scientific principles of Audiology.
N.B. This is a Technical Support role and should not be confused with a Clinical role in Audiology.
