The Role and Department

The Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences is a global leader across a range of sport and physical activity domains. We have been named Sports University of the Year by @thetimes and we are proud to be ranked 2nd in the UK, in the Complete University Guide 2023. We have recently moved to new premises in Durham City, where we enjoy a brand new suite of offices, flexible meeting and research spaces, and a new laboratory and nutrition kitchen. We also have laboratories at the Maiden Castle Sport and Wellbeing complex where we are integrated with Team Durham Sport.

Applications are invited for a Teaching Fellow in sport and exercise sciences with a particular emphasis on research methods (ideally qualitative methods) and dissertation supervision. Teaching Fellowships offer the opportunity of valuable experience to those early in their academic careers (including PhD students) and the University is keen to maximise the benefit to as many people as possible.

The post of Teaching Fellow will involve a 0.4 teaching load, which will extend into the summer period. The Teaching Fellow will receive appropriate mentorship and there may be related scholarship and the opportunity for administrative duties which relate to education and pedagogy. The department has a successful history of actively supporting Teaching Fellows in their career progression.

The post is for a fixed term only, and it is not anticipated that the post will be extended beyond this fixed term.

Successful applicants will, ideally be in post by 1 September 2023
