About us Since 2011 the department has grown considerably. There are now 80 academic members of whom 32 are full professors, and a number of Honorary members of staff, including four Fellows of the Royal Society. The department also has 22 Postdoctoral Research Fellows, around 100 PhD students and 34 MSc students. We also welcome a regular stream of distinguished visiting academics from home and abroad. The broad range of research interests is reflected in the large choice of courses available in the third and fourth years of the degree programmes, from spectral theory, groups and geometry to fluid mechanics and from mathematical ideas in biology to cosmology. Research funding in the department from EPSRC, ERC, Leverhulme Trust and the Wellcome Trust has grown significantly in recent years with an increase of 70% in total funding since 2011.
About the role The Faculty of Mathematical and Physical Sciences (MAPS) is comprised of eight departments that are highly rated for research excellence: Chemistry; Physics & Astronomy; Space & Climate Physics; Mathematics; Science & Technology Studies; Earth Sciences, Risk and Disaster Reduction and Statistical Science. In addition, the Faculty has its own interdepartmental undergraduate degree programme: Natural Sciences.

This role is working within the Professional Services Team in the Department of Mathematics, which sits within the MAPS Faculty. The department has internationally recognised research groups in pure and applied analysis; fluid mechanics; mathematical physics; geometry and topology; algebra, number theory and combinatorics; mathematical modelling in biology, finance, industry, and society. The
Department of Mathematics has 81 academic staff, approximately 30 post docs, approximately 120 PGR students, 34 Master\xe2\x80\x99s students, visitors and honorary staff. The undergraduate cohort is approximately 1000 students. The department also includes the Clinical Operational Research Unit (CORU), a team of researchers dedicated to applying operational research and mathematical modelling approaches to problems in health care. The post holder will provide specialist administration to the designated teaching programmes, ensuring effective procedures are documented and adopted for dealing with all aspects of its administration. This post will assist in achieving a high quality and timely service to current students, and staff relating to the designated courses/programmes and beyond.
The post holder will also be responsible for administering the department\xe2\x80\x99s compliance with Tier 4 legislation and student engagement monitoring policies for undergraduate students, ensuring that activities undertaken in relation to UKVI processes and procedures for all student immigration categories are followed.
The post will provide support for all matters relating to the teaching and learning activities of students from enquiry to completion, incorporating supporting committees and processes relating to assessment, student, and course records.
About you The successful candidate will have minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above (including Mathematics and English Language) or equivalent or having acquired relevant experience. They will have experience of administration in higher/further education or a teaching and learning environment and experience of course/programme administration or similar, in a busy environment. Additionally, they will have familiarity with online learning environments, and they will also be computer literate, including Word, Excel, Outlook, shared online documents, video conferencing systems, email, and internet. They will demonstrate clear verbal and written communication skills and good interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise with a variety of people, including the ability to relate to staff and students in a teaching and learning context.
The successful candidate will also have the ability to independently prioritise and organise their own workload in a proactive manner, to meet time-critical schedules with the ability to work under pressure and deal with high volumes of processing. They will have the capacity to work independently and as part of a team, in addition to working confidentially and pro-actively. They will also be willing and able to learn and use new systems quickly, including UCL specific systems such as Portico and show commitment to high quality service provision whilst keeping skills and knowledge of courses/programmes up to date.
An outstanding candidate will have achieved formal qualifications in word processing/IT and will have the ability to use web publishing software to produce documents for web/Moodle in relation to teaching.
