It is an exciting time to join the CS Intelligence Analysis management team within South Yorkshire Police. Recognising the key part intelligence will play in the forces journey to outstanding, a significant increase in investment has been committed to the Force\'s research & analysis function. This has created several exciting new roles, which directly support the implementation and delivery of enhanced intelligence products across a diverse range of crime types and business areas, in an expanding department with excellent career development opportunities.

We are looking for a qualified Intelligence Analyst (or practiced Senior Intelligence Analyst) with previous experience in law enforcement, or other transferrable intelligence background, to join our expanding team.

Senior Analysts play a crucial role in the continued development, management and implementation of analytical staff and processes within South Yorkshire Police. Through clear co-ordination of information and intelligence, this role informs, influences, and directs planning and decision making at operational, strategic, and tactical levels across the Force. Senior Intelligence Analysts are crucial in enabling the effective allocation of resources and manage a specific area of business, ensuring delivery against organisational plans whilst adhering to national intelligence and analytical standards.

Managing a diverse team of staff, you will ensure compliance with the strategic aims and objectives for SCS Analysis and South Yorkshire Police with due regard to the Control Strategy, core NIM products, best practice, and critical business processes, such as SOC System Tasking.

The individual will be customer focussed, able to respond to both proactive and reactive enquiries (continuously evaluating any threat, risk, and harm), able to actively inform Force/operational strategy and best practice and have experience of building strong working relationships with a wide range of customers/stakeholders (including at a senior level).

As the role is required to supervise a team of practitioners working with the recognised analytical techniques, you will have previously completed the NIAT (National Intelligence Analysis Tactical Training [Analyst Foundation Course]) or a recognised equivalent. You will either have IPP certification or be willing to attain this certification within your first 18-24 months in post.

You will be able to demonstrate recent, extensive, demonstrable experience in an analytical environment, dealing with sensitive material and have an in-depth knowledge of the production and presentation of both core NIM products and relevant legislation.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide quality assurance against national standards in intelligence and analysis for analytical support across the organisation, driving innovation and best practice.

Manage a diverse team of Intelligence Analysts and Intelligence Researchers, conducting regular appraisals in line with organisational requirements. This is inclusive of performance management, grievance and discipline, attendance management, motivation, coaching and training.

Offer advice and support for the development of all team members. Manage the progression of staff, ensuring appropriate training opportunities and the continuous professional development of employees (including IPP accreditation within agreed timescales).

Inform decision making around the prioritised deployment of the analytical capability to ensure effective analysis is undertaken and understood, and ensure analytical support is provided at a strategic, tactical, and operational level to mitigate threat, risk, and harm.

Ensure analytical products are informed and developed as a result of consultation and feedback with key stakeholders, customers, and the wider organisation.

  • Confidently communicate the results of analysis to a wide range of internal stakeholders (including senior officers) and external partners, with recommendations. This incorporates the dissemination of documents, delivering presentations and attending briefings at operational, strategic, and tactical levels.
  • Enable collaboration with colleagues in other departments and partner agencies to share data and analysis to facilitate cross-sector working practices and improved analytical outcomes.
  • Demonstrate management qualities meeting the strategic aims and objectives of the department and Force.
  • Maintain awareness of innovation within intelligence to ensure implementation of latest techniques and tactics, best practice, and information relevant to the role.
Skills and Experience:
  • To be educated to degree standard or equivalent in a statistical, research or social science field, or to have extensive work experience in intelligence analysis.
  • Highly developed knowledge of analytical skills and intelligence gathering (including evaluation) to interpret complex data. To have recent, extensive, demonstrable experience in an analytical environment, dealing with confidential and sensitive material and knowledge of specialist software (e.g., i2, CSAS, ESRI).
  • Knowledge of the production and presentation of core NIM products (emphasis on Strategic and Tactical Assessments).
  • Previous experience of peer reviewing or quality assuring intelligence and/or evidential products.
  • Willing to undertake College of Policing (CoP) Intelligence Professionalisation Programme (IPP) Certification (to complete within 18-24 months of appointment).
  • Ability to maintain the highest levels of integrity, discretion, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to quality assure intelligence products and negotiate with and influence senior managers based on data and analytical outcomes.
  • Able to set out logical arguments clearly, adapting language, form, and message to meet the needs of different people / audiences.
  • Skilled in using specialised software related to own area of work to extract, analyse, and report on data.
  • Able to manage the introduction of new analytical techniques or ways of working at team level.
  • Able to review and assess individual and team performance against expected standards, providing objective and effective feedback and ensuring corrective actions are taken where necessary.
  • Able to plan, to allocate work appropriately within the team and to identify and mitigate risks to delivery.
  • Able to identify key stakeholders, understand potential roles and to take appropriate steps to understand their needs and concerns.
  • To have a flexible working approach to working hours and location throughout the Force area, willing to react to duty changes, and occasionally work irregular extended hours.
  • Be prepared to be vetted to and maintain SC/MV clearance, with the possibility of DV.
  • Has held and maintained Analyst IPP Certification for a period of 3 years (desirable).
  • Experience in leading/supervising/ managing a team of staff (desirable).
  • Experience of training and coaching (desirable).
  • Hold a full driving licence and have use of own vehicle for work purposes (reasonable adjustments considered under the Equality Act 2010) (desirable).

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. Field: This applies to roles that do have a base, however, due to the nature of their duties is required to travel to other locations. Due to the nature of these roles, they cannot accommodate flexible working from home on a permanent basis.

Hybrid: Applicable when the work can be undertaken at any location, whether that be a SYP building or from home.
