The UK's only purpose-built, two-pool teaching centre, privately owned and managed but still open to the public, Shirley Pool is dedicated to learn to swim. It provides a clear progressive pathway from baby to butterfly and beyond. Using its own teaching plan and awards, the centre has consistently produced swimmers of County, Regional and National standard.
With over 1600 current customers, the business is healthy and the demand for tuition is growing.
You should only apply for this position if you are a dedicated, career swimming teacher. You will need to demonstrate huge enthusiasm for the role, high-quality communication skills at the water level and a genuine appetite for the hard work that is involved in teaching children to swim properly.
The pool is situated in its own grounds, in a busy suburb, a mile from the City Centre. Southampton is a vibrant, diverse city with excellent links to London and the South Coast with its beaches and National Parks.
Teachers are hourly paid and depending on skill sets, the applicant can add to their teaching hours with FOH hours and if interested, additional hours by closing of the building at 12.50 per hour.
The pool has it's own cafe, a converted double-decker bus, staff receive a 30% discount. Cooled water is provided poolside.
The centre closes at Easter, Christmas and on all bank holidays. Staff receive 28 days paid holiday a year.
Reporting directly to the MD you will be responsible for assessing, teaching and progressing your own classes through all the strokes.
The successful applicant will be teaching after-School classes (Beginners - Butterfly) and have availability to cover evening Adult classes as well as during the school holidays will have the opportunity to run Crash Courses classes. There are also opportunities to run 121 classes and teach Schools. If you have a Parent & Child Instructor qualification, there would also be the opportunity to instruct these classes too. We are open all year round so must have full availability throughout the year and able to work through School Holidays.
Essential qualifications required:
Exceptional communication skills and experience in a customer-facing environment
STA/ASA Level 2 Swimming Teaching Qualification
STA/ASA Parent & Baby Swimming Teaching Qualification
A current NPLQ qualification or National Teachers Rescue qualification (preferred although we can arrange training if necessary)
Excellent swimming ability with up to date knowledge of the sport
Be a positive role model, creating a fun environment in which to motivate and encourage young people to participate
Good Team Player
A willingness to be flexible to cover other staff lessons for holidays/sickness/maternity
ASA/STA Parent & Baby Teaching Qualification - is preferable but would not be required to be successful for this role. If qualified availability to cover our P&C classes
