The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.

The Role & Key Responsibilities


Keeping people and our local communities safe from crises that threaten our way of life is at the heart of what we do.


Whether flooding, pandemic, major fire or cyber-attack, your skills could help Sussex prepare, prevent and respond effectively to the next emergency.


Sussex Resilience Forum (SRF), hosted by Sussex Police, is the partnership of local agencies working together and with Central Government to reduce risk in communities and prepare for emergencies, bringing together emergency services, health, local authority, environment, transport, voluntary and utilities sectors.


The small business management team is central to the SRF's governance and co-ordination.


You will lead and co-ordinate the SRF Risk Management function on behalf of the partnership, and in support of existing working groups. Your key focus will be to drive an ambitious and essential risk programme including a new Capabilities process across the Partnership. You will be fully conversant in all aspects of emergency planning/resilience to enact and maintain the team's functions and support SRF governance arrangements. You will be confident in working with a diverse set of stakeholders at a strategic and operational level, with the ability to problem-solve and develop innovative solutions in line with the resilience landscape. This will require excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills.


Skills & Experience

QUALIFICATIONS:




A recognised emergency planning qualification to degree level, or relevant experience of working in an emergency planning and preparedness role in a relevant organisation Educated to A level or equivalent experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:




Proven experience of working in a complex multi-agency or partnership environment with specific/transferrable experience in plan development and risk assessment. Knowledge and understanding of multi- agency operations including Category 1, 2 and voluntary sector agencies including strategic drivers. Knowledge and application of the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 with particular emphasis on emergency preparedness. Ability to work autonomously and demonstrate accountability in areas of risk expertise. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with all levels of supervision and management with internal and external stakeholders. Ability to anticipate and pre-empt key risks relevant to programme management and continuity to ensure positive/robust outcomes as well as reputational management. Highly motivated and able to develop a co-operative working relationship with others especially at a senior level Able to demonstrate excellent negotiation skills at different levels within an organisation and externally to partners and organisations. Ability to understand new ideas and concepts and to assess their strategic value and practical implications. Able to conduct research and analysis to produce complex management reports. Evidence of strong organisational and problem-solving skills commensurate with the complex nature of the SRF partnership and external drivers e.g. legislation, national expectations, SRF financial arrangements.
