Wrexham, United Kingdom

Job Description

Support Worker - Wrexham, Full or Part-Time, manual UK driving license essential, Full training provided

Wrexham

With 2024 in full swing, your mind might be thinking that you need a change of scene, a change of career? Do you want to feel proud when you tell people what you do for a job and how you work for a charity?

If the answer is yes to any of these questions then the next question to ask is\xe2\x80\xa6What is support work and will I be fully trained? Do I need experience?

Being a support worker is all about being good with people. We are looking for someone who would get job satisfaction from helping others to achieve their life goals and also from being part of their journey. We support people with learning disabilities and or autism to live perfectly ordinary lives. We want people to be ambitious for themselves as well as the people who draw on our support.

Every day is different and depending on who you are supporting, you could be helping with morning routines, supporting people to explore the local area i.e. visiting shops and places of interest or spending time with them in their homes doing jigsaws, watching films, cooking, crafting etc . Many of the people who draw on our support have multiple hobbies that they need support to enjoy. We also require staff to be comfortable with personal care for example, support showering, going to the bathroom and you will also be required to give medication on occasion.

We are hoping that you can bring new ideas and introduce us to more things that we can do. You will be working in one of our four services in Wrexham and will not be traveling from service to service.

Lived experience is also very valuable. If you know someone who has a learning disability and/or autism, maybe a family member, neighbour or someone in your community that you are friends with, this will give you a unique insight into how amazing it can feel to support someone to live their life the way they choose.

Where are our services?

We have four services in and around Wrexham - Ponciau, Ruabon, Llay and Coed-y-Glyn. We will match you to the service that we think you will fit in the best. Everyone who draws on our support have their own flat or bungalow at the service which gives them the freedom to live their own lives.

"Please note, we are currently unable to offer sponsorships as we await further guidance from the Home Office. Applications requiring sponsorship cannot be considered at this time. We appreciate your understanding."

What do we want from you?

We are looking for people who share our values, who are warm, friendly and willing to learn, and also who celebrate people\'s differences. At MacIntyre, we strive to make all of our staff feel included, valued and respected, just like the people we support.

You don\'t have to have any past care experience but a kind, caring, creative and patient attitude is a must. We will train you on all the formal key skills you will need in terms of Emergency first aid, safeguarding and giving medication. We hold a number of full and half day training courses (9am-4pm) that you will be expected to attend whilst you are working with MacIntyre, but don\'t worry, you will be given plenty of notice.

Due to the needs of the people we support, you must also hold a manual UK driving licence as your ability to drive unlocks the opportunities for people to do the things they really enjoy! But don\'t worry! You won\'t be racing between appointments

We provide support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and so the ability to work bank holidays and weekends is desirable. You will be working on a shift pattern which may include regular early morning starts (7am) and late evening finishes (10pm) depending on the service you are based at. Therefore, we need you to be flexible with your availability, but we do always try and be fair when distributing shifts.
