Job Description


On August 1st, 2023, City College Southampton, Eastleigh College and Fareham College will merge to form the South Hampshire College Group*. This merger represents an exciting opportunity for the region\xe2\x80\x99s students, offering defined pathways into employment, with employers benefiting from a more joined up approach that will create work ready employees aligned to the region\xe2\x80\x99s growth agenda as well as a fresh start for all staff by embedding best practice, resources and cultures that will deliver an outstanding college. The merged group (who will all retain their campus names) will have a turnover of around \xc2\xa342 million and employ over 800 staff. Annually, the group would be responsible for the education and training of more than 3,600 students aged 16-19, over 1,200 apprentices and over 5,000 adults.

If so, we have a unique opportunity for you to join the Careers and Outreach team at Fareham College as a SUN Progression Mentor!

We work collaboratively with the to provide our students with professional support in achieving their desired higher education pathways. The SUN is part of the which aims to contribute to reducing the gap in higher education participation between the most and least represented groups. To be successful in this post you will be a confident communicator and thrive in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment.

With the support of the SUN Further Education Project Leaders and your colleagues at Fareham College, your key responsibilities will include;

Acting as a point of contact for target students, providing them with 1:1 sessions, mentorship and coaching support to participate in education and employment initiatives.

Supporting target students in their application to further study, including applications for level 3 and 4 courses (inc. apprenticeship pathways).

Create and deliver presentations and workshops to target students and their key influencers about all progression opportunities.

Liaise with partner institutions, local employers, councils and charities as appropriate to identify opportunities for target students.

To work closely with the SUN to monitor and evaluate Uni Connect projects and activity at Fareham College.

Provide sound information and advice to target students regarding Higher Education (HE) opportunities

We are seeking a candidate with the following Knowledge/Skills/Experience:

Educated to at least Degree/HND level

Experience of working with young people in an educational environment

Proven experience in organising and scheduling events and activities

The ability to deliver presentations to groups

Well-developed administrative and organisational skills with excellent attention to detail

Knowledge of the secondary, tertiary, and higher education sectors

The actual salary for this role is \xc2\xa319,784, based on 0.81 FTE (30 hours per week)
