The unit is running with an emphasis on forage/grazing and set to run with a sister unit with 360 crossbred cows block calving in the autumn period on each site. There is an excellent mix of responsibilities which includes milking, fertility, grassland management on the original unit with TMR feeding and associated stock work across the two.The herds are managed on a forage-based system with the housed period on sand cubicles with semi TMR feeding; the yields are around 8,500 litres a cow.
