This is a new post which has been created following an increase in demand and team size over recent years. The service covers a large geographical patch including the towns of Selby, Pickering, Pocklington and Easingwold.
The service follows the national EIP model, accepting referrals for suspected first episode of psychosis, including self-referrals. The service currently operates a First Episode of Psychosis pathway (FEP) for the assessment and treatment of patients with psychosis who score on the Comprehensive Assessment of At-Risk Mental States (CAARMS). The service works with people for up to 3 years, from age 14 to 65. Medical input for patients under 18 is provided by the local CAMHS consultants. The team provides holistic assessment and treatment including evidence-based interventions for psychosis e.g., CBTp, family therapy and antipsychotics. This is an expanding team and the hope is that in the future an At Risk Mental State Pathway will also be opened to help prevent or delay transition to psychosis.
The Trust provides a range of mental health and learning disability services to the 2 million people living in County Durham, Darlington, Teesside, North Yorkshire and York & Selby.The Trust has strong academic links with local universities.
Main duties of the job
It is the expectation that the post-holder will provide senior leadership and oversight to the learning and development needs of the wider team. The post is primarily based at Huntington House and the post-holder will have access to office space at Huntington House, as well as the option of hot desk working in the shared team office. The post holder will be expected to provide some clinic time based in Worsley Court, Selby.
There is an expectation for the post holder to support medical students, junior doctors and students of other disciplines on rotation with the team.
As a senior medic within the team, it is the expectation that the post holder will:
Offer senior advice and support in the assessment, formulation, diagnosis and management of presenting conditions
Support the team and other prescribers to make safe and effective prescribing decisions
Take part in morning huddle meetings with the team as well as attending MDT meetings, professionals meetings, and the team leadership meeting
Take part in and provide insight and direction into complex case work contributing to the overarching formulation of patient care and planning within the scope of Multi-disciplinary Team approach
Join the wider team in providing relevant teaching and training when required and link in with local and regional EIP forums.
About us
The team is involved with teaching and training inducing supporting medical and nursing students, and trainees in various disciplines. There is currently one core trainee with the EIP team and capacity for a Higher Trainee. The teams current caseload is 225 patients.
The team includes: Consultant Psychiatrist, Clinical Psychologist, Team Manager, Advance Nurse Practitioner, Band 6 (RMNs/Social Workers/Occupational Therapists), Band 6 Specialist OT, Band 5 (RMN/ SW/ OT), Band 7 Therapists (CBT & Family Therapy), Band 6 Therapists in Training, OT Assistant, Employment Support Worker, Support Workers, Associate Practitioner, MedicalSecretary and Team Administrators
Doctors are supported in their development via annual appraisals, job planning and revalidation. The Trust provides a range of health and wellbeing services for staff including an Employee Support Service, counseling service, mindfulness sessions, staff retreats and guidance on health and fitness.
