Bridgend Mental Health Services are looking for an Speciality Doctor to join the General Adult Psychiatry team.
This specialty doctor post is part of the established Unscheduled Care team providing psychiatric care to hospital inpatients.
The postholder responsibilities includes provision of clinical input into mental health services for working age adults in inpatient and settings in the Bridgend County Borough area, under the direction of Consultant, Dr Paul Emmerson. The post works across adult inpatient wards including adult acute and psychiatric intensive care. It will include the responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and management of illness.
There will be the opportunity to work alongside a range of local mental health services across Bridgend, including our Community Mental Health Team, which provides services to patients under with Primary and Secondary mental health needs under the Mental Health Act Measure, CDAT and unscheduled care. In addition, patients in Bridgend benefit from accessing health board wide specialist services such as Perinatal Mental Health, Eating Disorders, Early Intervention for Psychosis and Rehabilitation Services.
The post holder will work closely Home Treatment team who can help facilitate appropriate earlier discharge form the inpatient setting, to continue recovery and care at home.

Main duties of the job
Day-to-day assessment, diagnosis, formulation of management plans, and review of patients
Management of patients with mental health needs in inpatient settings in the Bridgend Locality, under direction of the inpatient Consultant.
Support the Consultant and assume responsibility for the medical management of the ward in his/her absence, with support from an established community and inpatient Consultants.
Liaise and communicate effectively with members of the team, other teams and services within the Directorate, other Hospital departments and with external agencies (including but not restricted to, General Practitioners, Social Services, Police and probation service) by whatever means possible.
Subject to S12(2) approval, Implementation of the Mental Health Act and associated duties.
Prepare psychiatric reports, including Tribunal reports, Manager\'s hearing reports, Capacity reports, Coroner reports, and attend Hearings when requested to do so.
Participate and contribute to ward rounds and team meetings including MDT meeting.
Liaising and collaboration with colleagues from other specialties and organisations, when dealing with a wide range of needs -e.g. palliative care team, medical and surgical specialties, Liaison psychiatric team, Local Authority partners and the third sector.
Support the team with routine administrative duties.
Provide appropriate day to day supervision of Junior medical staff with Consultant support.
