Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust is looking to appoint substantive Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration Doctors (CESR) to join the Emergency Medicine Middle grade team which is funded for 20 whole time equivalent Middle-Grade doctors (plus 2 for AEC). In addition, we have an establishment of 12 Consultants and we have completed a 8 Million redevelopment of the Emergency Floor which has produced a bespoke ED transforming the way we deliver Emergency and Urgent care to our local population.

We are offering CESR Specialty Doctor roles, with the opportunity of being mentored by CESR Consultants to guide you in your application toward a CESR and to participate in our programme the SeSaR project - tailored to your needs.
The SeSaR (See Support and Recognition) is a locally developed programme which is targeted for both International Doctors coming to work in the NHS and non-trainees wanting to apply for a CESR in Emergency Medicine.
The programme will support you in your career progression and adaptation to the NHS.
Main duties of the job
We would expect the successful candidate to have an understanding of the principles of clinical audit, clinical governance and evidence-based medicine. These are actively practiced in the department and contributions by the Middle Grades are fully supported. There is an active regional research group and research interests of the post holder would be supported.
The successful candidate will be encouraged to lead a quality improvement project and an Audit.
The post-holder will be expected to receive, examine, investigate, treat and refer appropriately patients of all descriptions arriving at the Emergency Department. The postholder has a duty to seek help from more senior colleagues when uncertain of how to manage any particular patient.
He/she must have a thorough up-todate knowledge of resuscitation techniques and take a major role in the employment of these in the resuscitation of critically ill and injured patients brought into the Department.
The post-holder must ensure that all relevant documentation is completed for each patient seen, including the required data input for the departmental computer systems and the generation of a GP letter.
The post-holder will be encouraged to update their knowledge and skills by attending appropriate courses/meetings. Appraisal will be used to monitor progress throughout the post and to identify future training needs.

It is an exciting time to join our team. We have been selected by HEE KSS for the CESR project and received the CHKSS award for Patient Safety 2019. We have completed a 8 Million redevelopment of the Emergency Department which has produced a bespoke ED transforming the way we deliver Emergency and Urgent care to our local population. The team is flexible with several special interests such as point of care ultrasound (POCUS), teaching and simulation. We welcome new ideas and diversity and the Trusts focus is on empowering clinical leadership. The primary duties of the post are to see new patients within the ED, and to be an on-site source of advice, help and supervision for more junior doctors in the ED. This is a senior post and specialty doctors will be the doctor in charge of the department at night with a consultant on call from home after midnight. The successful candidate will be working on the Middle Grade rota (see below) and accountable to the EM Consultants. We expect for the candidate to have good leadership skills, ability to manage the Department, including flow through the ED. The successful candidate will have a dedicated mentor (supervisor) and 1 SPA for training, CPDs and quality improvement projects, plus budgeted study leave days.
This is a programme which includes dedicated one-to-one mentoring and a course mapped on the GMC domains.
Dedicated mentoring for CESR applicants by CESR Consultants will take you through the application process.
Practical experience will be delivered via simulation and workshops where you are at the centre of the learning experience.
The trust has experienced CESR consultants who will be available to give the successful candidates support, mentorship and coaching.
The post is intended to provide the clinician with the support and training required to successfully complete all aspects of the CESR process.
