Job Description

This specialty doctor post has been created to support the development of the inpatient psychiatric service for children and adolescents in Oxfordshire. The post holder will work alongside the full-time consultants, Drs Anthony James and Lakshmeesh Muttur, Locum Consultant Psychiatrist. A CAMHS higher trainee (on rotation) and another specialty doctor also provide medical care.

Main duties of the job

The Trust provides Tier 4 inpatient and other services for Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and neighbouring counties commissioned by NHS England. Oxford Health is the lead provider for the Thames Valley Clinical Network New Care Model for Tier 4 provision, with Oxford Health beds at Highfield Unit, Oxford, Marlborough House Swindon and Huntercombe, Maidenhead. The Highfield Unit provides 18 inpatient and day patient facilities for young people aged 11 - 18. There are 2 HDU beds. The service works closely with the inpatient unit in Swindon ensuring most admissions are kept local.

The Highfield is a busy adolescent unit. The post holder will work with an experienced multidisciplinary team, which includes nursing staff, psychologists, social worker, family therapist and occupational therapists. There is an attached school where the local authority teachers follow the national curriculum. The Highfield attracts a number of students and is a regular placement for medical students and students from other disciplines.

Job description
Job responsibilities * Day-to-day management of the inpatients at the Highfield Unit, Warneford Hospital. This will include contribution to ward rounds (including typing contemporaneous clinical notes into the electronic patient records), CPA review and discharge planning meetings, and Mental Health Act Tribunals. This will be under the clinical supervision of the dedicated inpatient consultants from the team. Clinical Supervision will rotate between the consultants as agreed

Liaison with the Community Mental Health teams (CAMHS) to ensure co-ordinated clinical care of patients.

• Providing timely written correspondence to relevant professionals documenting assessments, ongoing management, progress, and discharge summaries using Trust IT and clinical records system training will be provided where needed
• Work collaboratively with other agencies, in particular liaison with staff from other teams to manage smooth and timely transfer into and out of the unit. The teams most commonly involved with this will be the CAMHS, CAMHS Crisis and OSCA, Early Intervention Psychosis (EIS)
• Active commitment to delivering the Trusts clinical governance agenda. Highfield will lead its own governance agenda including audit, quality, patient experience, learning from incidents, patient safety initiatives and interrogation of data. The senior leadership team comprising of matron, consultants and ward manager will link with CAMHS management both in identifying areas of concern and feeding back actions, as well as area of excellence
• Contribution to developing and delivering improved clinical services as outlined in the National Service Framework for Mental Health
• The post holder will be expected to contribute to the collection of data as required by the Trust and other relevant agencies. This includes the timely recording of clinical activity data, and participation in clinical audit -with appropriate administrative support
• The post holder will be expected to participate in and attend the local training programme for junior doctors

• The post holder will normally cross-cover with the other trainees for annual leave, study leave and brief periods of sickness absence
• Sick leave: During the first year of service - One months full pay and (after completing four months service) two months half pay.

Qualifications
Essential

• General medical qualification

Desirable

• Some or all parts of MRCPsych or equivalent

Training
Essential

• Shall have completed at least four years\' full-time Postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.

Desirable

• Attendance at MRCPsych course or equivalent
• Section 12 (2) approval: Mental Health Act, 1983

Clinical Experience
Essential

• Held hospital appointments in psychiatry at SHO/CT or equivalent

Desirable

• Experience at ST or SD level or equivalent
