Part time - 21 hours per week

Working in a vibrant artistic environment on a range of technical projects, supporting students and staff with their technical teaching, research and imaginative project work across a broad range of disciplines. You will find yourself supporting staff and students to make their projects come to life aided by your expertise whilst working closely with the wider ITTS Digital and Media Team, as well as academic colleagues throughout ECA.

The Opportunity:

You will join a team of dedicated and professional technical staff supporting interdisciplinary teaching and research. You will have an in-depth understanding of Sound and Music Technology and a passion for helping others make use of it to challenge, create, and make change happen.

You will be responsible for supporting a wide range of highly complex Sound and Music Technology facilities and resources located across the School of Music; mainly in Electroacoustic and Sound Design studios, the music technology labs, and Reid Concert Hall. You will diagnose complex technical challenges and take appropriate action in rectifying any problems, ensuring H&S policies are applied to maintain a safe working environment.

You will be, primarily, based in ECA\'s Music facilities (currently at Alison House). The remit of this post will require occasional on-site event support, which can take place across the Edinburgh University Campus and outside of the regular business hours.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Demonstrable in-depth technical knowledge and experience supporting relevant processes and equipment: from electroacoustics and sound design, to location recording, live events and immersive audio
  • Confidence in identifying and troubleshooting IT-related issues within MAC OS (relating to sound/ music setup)
  • Proven ability to present technical ideas and concepts to an audience with a wide range of skills and experience levels.
  • An inquisitive attitude and desire to learn new skills and technologies to tackle challenges as they arise.
  • Firm grasp of the health and safety aspects in context of live events and working with students and the public
