Specialist Safeguarding Nurse

in eating disorders. Please note this is a

part-time

role, 30 hours per week.

Role Overview:



As a

Specialist Safeguarding Nurse

, you will work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team. You will work across three eating disorder services: Adults Outpatients Service, The Young Persons' Outpatient Service and the Adult Day Care Service. The role combines clinical nursing responsibilities with safeguarding leadership, ensuring the safety and well-being of clients across both settings.

In the young persons' outpatient service, you will support young people (13+) with eating disorders through risk assessments, safeguarding interventions and psychoeducation for families and carers. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to identify and manage safeguarding concerns, liaising with external agencies such as social services, safeguarding boards and mental health teams.

In the adult day care service, you will play a crucial role in risk monitoring, safeguarding vulnerable adults and supporting complex cases involving mental capacity, physical health risks and other complexities associated with eating disorders. You will also support meal supervision and act as Day Lead Clinician. You will act as a champion of social care and safeguarding of clients in collaboration with the wider team and safeguarding leads.

As a safeguarding lead, you will provide expert advice and training to colleagues ensuring that all team members are confident in recognising, escalating and managing safeguarding concerns. You will also contribute to policy development, quality improvement initiatives and service audits to enhance safeguarding practices across the organisation.

Desired Skills and Expertise:



1) Clinical Responsibilities:



Provide specialist mental health nursing care to individuals with eating disorders ensuring physical and psychological risk monitoring. Conduct safeguarding and managing risk, ensuring concerns are escalated appropriately. Act as Named Nurse to a small caseload across the two services.

2) Safeguarding Leadership:



Lead on safeguarding referrals and liaise with social services, safeguarding boards and muti-agency teams. Act as Safeguarding Lead and take a lead in the promotion of Orri's safeguarding practices and undertake safeguarding enquires. Contribute to the provision of care plans that protect clients from abuse. Attend Clinical Governance meetings to actively contribute to discussions and ensure that safeguarding practices are continually reviewed and improved in line with clinical standards. Work alongside the |Clinical manager and Compliance Manager to monitor trends and emerging themes related to safeguarding, ensuring proactive identification and response to potential risks or areas for improvement are subsequently reported into Clinical Governance. To undertake regular risk assessments and ensure that vulnerable people are kept safe. To undertake carer assessments, including identifying contingency plans, and provision of support.

3) Risk Management & MDT Collaboration:



Conduct complex risk assessments and safeguarding concerns. Work closely with the MDT to coordinate risk management plans. Implement and oversee safety plans, care plans and crisis interventions. Ensure robust documentation of all safeguarding concerns, actions taken and inter agency communications. To adhere to Orri policies and procedures. To undertake additional training as required. To carry out any other duties as appropriately identified by your line manager.

Essential Criteria:



Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with NMC registration. Significant experience in safeguarding within CAMHS and adult mental health services. Knowledge of safeguarding legislation (Children's Act, Care Act, MCA, MHA, Dols, Prevent Strategy) Experience in working in eating disorder services (CAMHS or adult) Ability to work independently across two service models Experience in providing training related to safeguarding Ability to work effectively with multi-agency teams, safeguarding boards and external partners Excellent documentation, report writing and IT skills.
