Job overview This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading centre at the forefront of research and clinical innovation in haemato-oncology which will provide the BMT and CAR-T service for the region. As a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist, the post holder will be a member of the departmental team and assist in the delivery of a quality driven, cost effective, patient focused service and to provide that service in a manner commensurate with the profession working towards JACIE and HTA reaccreditation as part of the Trust\xe2\x80\x99s BMT Programme. The post holder will be expected to work in the laboratory and team office assisting the more senior staff in procedures and administration tasks, including the supervision of support staff. As part of the CAR-T expansion we have invested in staff, equipment and infrastructure. We anticipate our first patient at NUH imminently and are excited to be able to deliver this to the patient closer to home and be part of the vision for tomorrow\'s NUH. The post holder will be required to work across the City Campus as appropriate for the delivery of the service and there will be occasions when planned out of hours working is required.
Main duties of the job As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist, the post holders\xe2\x80\x99 main role is to assist in the processing of peripheral blood stem cells for life saving transplantation and participate in any Cell Therapy work as part of our new CAR-T service expansion. This includes cryopreservation of cells, organisation of long-term storage, qualitative and quantitative analysis of stem cells by tissue culture work and flow cytometry. It will also involve participation in the reinfusion of cells on the haematology wards. Working to HTA standards and JACIE requirements the post holder will be responsible for meticulous record keeping to ensure the safety of the cells is demonstrable and auditable.

Training & Qualifications
Essential criteria

  • HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist; has completed the IBMS Specialist Portfolio or equivalent (Haematology, Blood transfusion and transplantation or other closely related subject); knowledge of specialist discipline to postgraduate diploma level or equivalent.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to continuing education and training.

Desirable criteria
  • IBMS membership.
  • Shows and awareness of method development and new technologies
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of instrumentation
  • BBTS Specialist Certificate in Stem Cell Transplantation Science.

Experience
Essential criteria
  • Conscientious, Meticulous. Demonstrates ability to organise their own work effectively
  • Keyboard skills and computer literacy
  • Able to demonstrate competency in appropriate laboratory techniques.
  • Relevant laboratory experience of at least Minimum 2 years post HCPC Registration experience.
  • Minimum of 12 months in NHS or UK based laboratory.

Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of cryopreservation, flow cytometry and Tissue Culture work.
  • Has a genuine interest in the future of Stem Cell and Cell Therapy work.

  • Requires highly developed physical skills including accurate eye to hand coordination
