SOFTWARE TEST ENGINEER \xe2\x80\x93 CONTRACT 6 MONTHS - WINFRITH Near Dorchester in Dorset

This role is OUTSIDE IR35 and rates are negotiable. The role will be a split between working from home and working on site typically 2 days from home and 3 days on site (WINFRITH Near Dorchester in Dorset, you will need access to the Hardware certainly at some points).

The role is to test and evaluate C++ and Java code. The successful candidate will have solid software design and development skills. My client is looking to set up 2 teams one for design and coding and one for testing. The vision is to set up an independent test team to rigorously test and verify the software. The software is running on small networks for example a combat system or sonar suite.

AT THE COAL FACE TASKS / RESPONSIBILITIES

• Software Engineering Lifecycle processes and tools.
• Proven ability to support or lead software test activities.
• Knowledge and understanding of Software Testing within Software development lifecycle.
• Understanding of Open Systems Architectures and Principles.
• Analysis of the software requirements (DOORs) to write the tests.
• Ability to implement and use static and automated testing for software running on host PCs and Servers.
• Write the Software Test Plan to describe the overall test approach/strategy.
• Write the Software Test Specifications to describe the tests and how they will validate the software against the Software Requirements Specification.
• Deliver Software testing to the defined plan and test specifications.
• Provide monthly progress metrics for the test activity.
• Proven ability in the testing of high integrity software to recognised standards \xe2\x80\x93 IEC61508, DO178 or equivalent
• Ideally understand military systems, in particular maritime systems.

DESIRABLE PRIMARY SOFTWARE / SYSTEMS SKILLS

• Familiar with C++ and Java to support code walkthroughs, test activities, and generation of test harnesses. Python and /or MATLAB also beneficial.
• Requirements management (DOORS experience desirable)
• UML / Enterprise Architect for software design and informing testing
• Unit Testing / JUnit / CppUnit etc
• IBM Engineering Test Manager, Workflow Manager, Lifecycle Optimisation- Publishing, SonarQube.
• Usability Testing
• ISO 9001 and TickITplus standards
