Software Engineer – Developer Tooling

Job Description

Optiver is looking for a Software Engineer to join our Developer Excellence team in London, with a focus on building the tools and platforms that power developer workflows. This role will play a critical part in creating a high-quality developer environment -- from IDEs and plugins to AI assistants -- that enhances how our engineers write, test, and run code every day.



We're looking for a strong engineer with a passion for improving developer experience, an awareness of modern tooling and workflows, and a track record of identifying and implementing high-impact productivity improvements. You'll join a growing global team on a mission to improve every part of the developer experience at Optiver.




What you'll do:




Drive the adoption of consistent development environments across languages and teams, with an emphasis on reproducibility, and fast onboarding Explore and support the integration of AI-assisted tools, such as code generation and AI coding agents Contribute to the evolution and ownership of our source code platform and its surrounding ecosystem, building and maintaining new integrations and automations Define and build metrics that help us measure and understand developer productivity, and use these insights to guide future work Create and support integrations with documentation systems and code search tools to help developers find the information they need quickly Build and maintain tooling that simplify day-to-day development at Optiver and make iteration faster and more seamless -- including IDE extensions, command-line tools, and container-based workflows Partner with development teams to identify friction in their workflows and design solutions that simplify their setup, improve iteration speed, and enhance productivity Stay current with industry trends and emerging tools in the developer experience space, helping guide our adoption of best-in-class solutions

Who you are:




Have strong engineering instincts and a deep understanding of computer science fundamentals Experienced writing software in Python with a proven ability to deliver scalable, reliable, high-quality code, and experience across other languages like C++ and C# Skilled in building developer-facing tools such as IDE extensions (e.g. for VSCode), command-line utilities, and internal developer platforms Has supported the integration of AI-assisted development tools into real developer workflows Familiar with source code platforms like GitHub and has built tooling and workflows with them to improve developer experience Experienced in defining, capturing, and leveraging developer productivity metrics to inform priorities and measure impact
