Job Description


Barnsley Council is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Social Worker to join our Children in Care Team. As a member of this team, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality care and support to children in our care, ensuring their safety, well-being, and promoting their overall development.

Responsibilities:

  • Undertake assessments of children in care, ensuring their individual needs and risks are identified and addressed
  • Develop and implement robust care plans that promote stability, resilience, and positive outcomes for children
  • Act as a key point of contact and advocate for children, working collaboratively with foster carers, schools, and other professionals
  • Regularly visit children in care to monitor their progress, ensure their safety, and provide emotional support
  • Attend child protection meetings, reviews, and court hearings as required, presenting evidence and providing professional recommendations
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and departmental policies
  • Support the transition of young people leaving care, providing guidance on housing, education, employment, and independent living skills
  • Collaborate with external agencies and professionals to coordinate services and provide comprehensive support to children in care
Requirements:
  • Degree in Social Work or equivalent qualification
  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Proven experience working with children in a social work setting, preferably within a children in care team
  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures related to child protection and safeguarding
  • Strong assessment and analytical skills, with the ability to make evidence-based decisions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective engagement with children, families, and professionals
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team, managing a complex caseload
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and upholding the highest standards of social work practice
