About the team?

Shunters are key to delivering the right train, at the right time to the right place for delivery to our customers. The successful applicant will need to be flexible as they will be employed within the shunting team working a rotating shift pattern, which will include, early turn, late turn and nights across a 7-day rota. You will be involved in many activities that are vital to the running of our busy maintenance depot at Long Rock and will be encouraged to participate in improving processes and safe operational flexibility to deliver the highest standards.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Responsibility for the safe movement of trains and remarshalling of trains around the depot as required
  • To comply with GWR safety standards
  • Assisting with keeping the depot clean and tidy.
  • Actively participate in improving processes and safe operational flexibility.
  • Refuelling
  • Supporting the Depot management team
  • General Depot & Workshop facility cleaning duties.
  • To couple/uncouple, shunt & prepare rail vehicles when trained to do so.
  • Ensuring our trains are presented to the customer in a correctly marshalled and fully prepared condition.
You\'ll need to be:
  • Acutely aware of safety standards involved with moving trains within a depot
  • Focused on delivering high standards

  • Willing to develop new ways of working to improve the process
  • Able to work to a deadline and have an eye for detail
  • Focused on excellence and delivering for our customers.
  • Able to work to a rotating shift pattern

  • Self-motivated and experienced at working to tight schedules/timescales with an eye for detail
As a minimum you\'ll need to have:
  • Successful candidate will need to pass a safety critical medical
  • The ability to pass the shunter selection process which includes psychometric assessments
Additional Information?

This position will be working a shift pattern on a rota covering days & nights including weekend and bank holiday working.

Upon application you will be asked to complete an online test and following this, if your application is shortlisted, you will be invited to attend an assessment day that will include psychometric tests.

Should more than one applicant be successful a reserve list will be created to fill roles that may arise over the next 6 months for any shift pattern.

The basic rate of pay during training is \xc2\xa321,547 and this rises to a basic rate of \xc2\xa332,281 once you are productive.
