The Shores Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC)

in Bournemouth. This vital role provides essential care, support, and forensic examinations for victims of sexual assault and rape during an incredibly vulnerable time.

The Shores SARC operates 24/7, 365 days a year, with a committed team of on-call Crisis Workers and Sexual Offence Examiners. Our mission is to deliver

trauma-informed, high-quality care

and support to those who need it most.

Your Role as a Forensic Medical Examiner



In this essential role, you will provide acute forensic examinations and aftercare to victims of rape and sexual assault in line with

PHL

,

FFLM

, and

GMC

guidelines and codes of conduct.

Your key responsibilities include:



Conducting forensic examinations for victims of sexual assault in line with FFLM and GMC standards. Attending the SARC (or other agreed venues) within specified timeframes when on call. Liaising with Crisis Workers and specially trained officers to ensure the service is victim-centred and tailored to individual needs. Collecting forensic samples and documenting injuries, maintaining the chain of evidence. Conducting aftercare risk assessments, including pregnancy, STIs, blood-borne viruses, mental health, and safeguarding. Administering relevant medications following PHL and SARC guidelines. Completing all documentation accurately, including FFLM proforma and aftercare forms, and ensuring secure storage. Participating in strategy discussions to plan care based on individual needs.

Working Hours & Salary



Shifts:

On-call coverage for 12-hour shifts

Salary:

200 per 12-hour on-call shift, with an additional 150 per call-out.

What We're Looking For



We are seeking compassionate and professional individuals with the following

essential skills and experience:



Strong safeguarding knowledge and understanding. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal). Experience in forensic examination and medical aftercare of individuals following sexual assault. Experience working with children, young people, and vulnerable groups. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Medical indemnity insurance. Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.

Residency

: Must have been continuously resident in the UK for at least 3 years.

Security Clearance

: Enhanced DBS check and NPPV Level 3 vetting.
