An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Admiral Law's Serious Injury Team (SIT) as a Case Assistant!
The cases in SIT are challenging but rewarding. We support seriously injured clients to rebuild their lives and assist in securing them compensation that can grant them the independence accident related injuries have taken away.
Key Responsibilities:
Acting as a support to members of the SIT Department
Assisting with the running of handlers' case load in relation to SIT claims which are primarily RTA Intermediate Track / Multi-track (25,000+ files) and progressively actioning work which has been delegated to them by various handlers in relation to specific SIT Claims
Assisting Case Handlers with delegated tasks on their case load, Case Assistants are encouraged to participate in group work outside of their main supportive duties as this is recognised as being an important part of development and contribution to the whole of the SIT. Case Assistants are expected to organise and attend group meetings, contribute by taking minutes and where appropriate are encouraged to put forward proposals for development, take on projects / actively participate in on-going projects set by their group
Contributing towards other vital aspects of the department such as marketing, networking and charities
A Case Assistant would not be expected to manage their own SIT claims, and their role is one primarily of support, however on occasion and where appropriate a Case Handler may develop to running a small amount of lower end claims within the SIT Department to assist with their own personal development
Generally acting as a level of support to handlers and management in terms of both legal, client care, department and administrative functions
General day to day tasks include:
+ Research medical conditions
+ Undertake initial investigations
+ Obtain and review relevant medical records
+ Proof clients and witnesses
+ Assist with identifying and instructing experts
+ Request, obtain and Collate supportive documents within the life of a claim
+ Prepare simple schedules of financial loss and assist with more complex schedules
+ Carry out research and investigations material to issues of liability and quantum
+ Arrange, take and draft various witness statements, to include care statements by telephone
+ Conduct initial calls with clients by telephone
+ Assist with all aspects of litigated claims
+ Liaise with clients to provide updated and obtain documents
+ Prepare instructions to Counsel and prepare bundles for both Counsel and Court
+ Chase experts and Court
+ Provide appropriate updates to ATE and BTE insurers
+ Deal with payments of disbursements, client & office monies and the closure of files
In addition to carrying out chargeable work on SIT claims, a Case Assistant is also expected to support the Case Handlers and wider SIT team through administrative work which can include, but not limited to:
Reviewing incoming emails and letters (unless they are sizeable and need a detailed response)
Requesting cheques
Telephone Chasers
Posting letters
Basic photocopying i.e. letters, attachments to letters or forms.
Filing
Anything department/firm related i.e. meetings, organising events etc.
Skills and Requirements:
Good organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
Comfotrable working in a fast-paced environment with strict and often tight deadlines
Hold a good level of IT literacy
Understand how to correctly and pro-actively utilise the Case Management System to prioritise and diarise tasks
Ensure the firm's SLAs and KPIs are met
Act at all times within our regulatory framework and with our client's best interests at heart
Additional Information
We have a Smart Working approach whereby Case Assistants are required to be in our Cardiff office one day a week minimum to ensure time with their teams (at present the team office days are every Tuesday). There may of course be occasions where business needs require more Team / In Office time (particularly during your training and probationary periods). For any new starter there is a minimum requirement of 1 month in office training which will include your in-person induction and buddying with your new team. This may be extended to 3 months where necessary.
