Job description
The primary purpose of this position is to provide laboratory support to the research group led by BHF Chair of Cardiology, Professor Ajay Shah. The group comprises 20-30 research staff and students at any time. The research activities of the group encompass a wide range of wet-lab, dry-lab, animal and clinical research, including molecular and cellular biology, ex vivo and in vivo physiology and gene-modified models. There is an emphasis on complex biochemical analyses (e.g. redox modifications, LC/MS) and integrative physiology (e.g. echocardiography and isolated organs, tissues and cells).
The role holder will work closely with research staff and students on a day-to-day basis, with the majority of time spent on assistance with laboratory, technical activities, in particular cell culture (incl. primary cells and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs)), genotyping and similar duties.
The post holder will support and report to the Senior Technical Officer (Lab Manager), Dr Ana Georgian, to provide assistance in laboratory maintenance and administration: liaising closely with academic, research and professional services staff undertaking specific scientific research projects. In addition, they will assist the group with iPSCs maintenance, differentiation into cardiomycoytes and QC.
This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for until 31 Mar 2025.
This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent.
Key responsibilities
The role holder is expected to work as an integral member of the Department of Cardiology, working alongside the School\'s professional services team to provide high quality technical support to the Cardiology Chair\'s group in their research activities.
