The Role

lowRISC CIC is a not-for-profit hardware and software engineering company, collaborating with international partners to develop and maintain open source silicon designs, firmware and tools.

We are looking for an experienced technical project manager who can manage both our current and future projects. These exciting projects involve multiple international partners collaborating to develop new open source silicon designs. lowRISC\xe2\x80\x99s flagship OpenTitan project (the largest open source silicon project in the world) is an example of the type of project you will be managing.

This role requires both the management of internal lowRISC engineers but also the coordination of external project teams in a complex collaborative open source environment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the successful delivery of projects to agreed requirements, timescale and budget.
  • Reporting on progress made and forecasting future timescales and budgets.
  • Ensuring that all internal teams and partner organisations are aware of and kept up to date on the latest project timelines and status.
  • Managing, coordinating and directing a number of multi-discipline, open source silicon design projects across a full product lifecycle from definition to tape out including Digital Design, Design Verification and Software.
  • Leading the planning and implementation of projects. Liaising with key stakeholders to ensure all conditions are met to allow the project to proceed and be measured.
  • Owning the agreed project budget, milestones, and deliverables to ensure they are maintained in a controlled manner.
  • Managing by exception, you must understand and communicate any risks identified for each project. Where required, manage scope change and redefine each project as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain the project artefacts including project budget, project plans, quality plans, risk register, etc.
  • Documenting best practice to assist in continuous improvement of project management and development processes.
Requirements
  • Bachelor\'s degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 5 years proven experience planning and managing silicon IP or hardware or mixed hardware/software projects.
  • Ability to interact sensitively with all levels of the organisation, including at Board level.
  • Strong relationship management abilities and ability to communicate with sophistication and care.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Deep understanding of planning, scheduling, risk management and resource allocation.
  • A history of successful delivery in the face of challenging circumstances.
  • Demonstrable understanding or hands-on experience in real product development encompassing silicon (or FPGA) designs and embedded software.
  • Solid organisational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of project management and office software tools.
  • Ability to travel to the US and continental Europe when required. May be up to 20% of your time.
Desirable experience:
  • Experience working on silicon based security related projects, especially with regards to silicon tapeout and/or Common Criteria.
  • Experience liaising with remote development teams.
  • PMP / PRINCE II certification.

The team is based in Cambridge, UK, amongst the Silicon Fen\xe2\x80\x99s ecosystem of high tech startups. Our office is in the heart of the city and a short walk from the train station.
