Department Overview

The PPSD mission is to maintain, enhance and protect the Bank\xe2\x80\x99s environment and to provide excellent services for Bank staff. In addition to maintaining and securing the Bank premises, PPSD has responsibility for delivering a c\xc2\xa311mn property investment portfolio, business continuity, health & safety, events, facilities (switchboard, help desk and reception), catering, cleaning, post, and travel whilst ensuring value for money is achieved in all Bank wide procurements.

The Bank exists to ensure monetary stability and to contribute to financial stability. PPSD ensure that the infrastructures required to support the Bank\xe2\x80\x99s critical functions are maintained and enhanced.



As a Senior SCE working days, you will lead a team of six 24/7/365 SCEs, ensuring the Bank\xe2\x80\x99s critical infrastructure is always operational. You will be part of the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) team, which collectively, alongside the reactive team, is responsible for the continued safe functioning of the London premises, which consists of grade I listed Threadneedle Street and 20 Moorgate.

This is a 24/7 role. It provides operational management of critical systems within our London buildings, acts as a first responder to critical alarms, acts as an authorised Person, coordinates the exercising of emergency operating procedures, and, in the event of incidents, will manage the technical response and recovery.

This role will also undertake assigned maintenance/project work. It will support both Building Services and Energy Managers in completing quality assurance/conditional reporting and optimisation activities as part of our continuous improvement.

The Senior SCE will also include team leader responsibility for the SCE team to ensure the critical engineering infrastructure is constantly available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational management of critical building services in a grade I listed building.
  • Coordinating authorised person (CAP) for electrical and/or mechanical systems and upholding the Safe Systems of Work.
  • Completing assigned statutory and maintenance tasks per SLAs.
  • Dealing with incidents and using skill and experience to coordinate the recovery safely.
  • Continuous improvement activities will include operations, quality assurance and energy optimisation.
  • Staff Management, including managing the 24/7 rota, absence, training, and development.
  • Monitoring the BMS and other monitoring systems to ensure the plant operates correctly and instigating remediation when not.
Skills and Experience

Essential (minimum) criteria
  • HNC/HND or equivalent in building services discipline or level 3 technical qualification with significant experience.
  • Staff management experience in an operations and maintenance environment.
  • Industry-recognised H&S qualification
  • Working to Safe Systems of Work and being an Authorised Person.
  • Experience of using Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM)
  • Exposure to a full range of reactive and planned maintenance regimes.
  • An excellent understanding of building services
  • In-depth knowledge of statutory compliance.
  • Proven ability to learn and apply systems and plant operating instructions to a diagnostic level.
  • Ability to work under pressure to resolve complex engineering faults and emergencies.
  • Ability to read and understand complicated building services drawings.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to relate with stakeholders and produce detailed written reports.
Desirable criteria
  • Operating and maintaining building services within a heritage building
  • Experience of working in a data centre
  • Previously experience as a CAP

This specific role offers a competitive salary on a full-time basis.
