Senior Scientific Associate (fixed Term)

Cambridge, United Kingdom

Job Description

Join us at the world-leading CRUK Cambridge Institute. We\'re a unique department of the University of Cambridge, core funded by Cancer Research UK\'s charitable activities, and we\'re eagerly searching for our new **Senior Scientific Associate**.

The de la Roche lab is actively recruiting highly talented and motivated scientists to join the group at the CRUK Cambridge Institute. We are studying the Hedgehog signalling pathway in immune cell development and function.

Working on cells of the innate and adaptive immune system, we aim to understand the systemic and local regulatory mechanisms underpinning an effective immune response. We complement in vivo and in vitro approaches with the analysis of human tissues from our clinical research study at Addenbrooke\'s Hospital. Our long-term goal is to boost immune functions in patients suffering from cancer, infection and autoimmune disease.

You will assist the group leader in managing the immunotherapy direction of the lab and have oversight over our translational resources. In addition, you will provide technical assistance and guidance to PhD students, postdocs, and other lab members.

Candidates must have experience in isolation and phenotyping of immune cell subsets using flow cytometry and magnetic cell sorting, primary immune cell culture, functional in vitro assays, immune cell lineage tracing and molecular biology. Experience in genome editing, murine autochthonous and ectopic tumour models, in vivo imaging and immunohistochemistry is desirable. Ideally you have demonstrated creative and independent work characterizing effects of immunotherapeutic agents in vivo. Applicants who wish to be considered must display the ability to undertake project management, method development, data collection and analysis.

Applicants with expertise in cancer research, and who have experience in managing UK Home Office licences and knowledge of human tissue biobanking and compliance, would have a distinct advantage in their application.

You must have excellent communication and organizational skills, the ability to develop innovative experimental approaches to answer research questions and thrive both in independent research and while working collaboratively as part of a team.

You should have a BSc, MSc, or PhD degree level qualification in a relevant field, suitable for the position.

Should the right candidate fulfil all the essential and desirable skills, and show experience in scientific writing (grants, papers, etc.), we may be in the position to offer a salary commensurate with their level of experience.

Our institute links the laboratory to the clinic, carrying out cancer research of direct relevance to patients.

Our mission is to tackle the most difficult problems in cancer and improve patient outcomes.

Our science holds the solution.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure (criminal records check) check, a security check and a standard Disclosure and Barring Service check.

We welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for part-time working or other flexible working arrangements.

The University actively supports equality, diversity and inclusion and encourages applications from all sections of society.
