Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to work part-time as a Senior Nursing Assistant with the Immunology Nursing Team in their Day Case Unit.



The Immunology nurses are a small friendly team that look after a very unique set of patients, who attend both Allergy and Infusion clinics. These clinics are often very busy and your role will be to provide vital assistance to the nurses in treating and caring for these patients, you'll also be involved in looking after the general well-being and comfort of patients during their time in the clinic.



Applicants should have excellent communication skills, with a caring approach, and be a committed team player aiming to establish a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere for patients, visitors and staff. Prior knowledge of Immunology is not required as training will be provided. Part of the role will require receptionist/administration duties so computer and electronic patient record (EPR) skills would be an advantage but not essential.



The overall aims of this role are to provide a high quality service to patients and to support the smooth running of clinics in the Immunology department.

Job Summary:

As a member of the team, you will have both nursing and administrative duties within the role including:



Contribute to providing a high standard of patient care to the patients receiving treatment in the Immunology Day Clinic

Contribute to providing a high standard of patient care to those patients coming for routine outpatient appointments.

Contributing to the safe, efficient, and smooth running of the Immunology Day Clinic

Assist in the maintenance and development of the services provided for the immunology and allergy patients, including home therapy.

Maintain the dignity and privacy of all patients and respect their right to confidentiality.

Maintain accurate and legible records of patient care and assessment, in accordance with Trust policy.

Provide non-clinical aspects of patient care.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities



The following responsibilities should all take place under direct or indirect supervision by the immunology nurses.



Clinic



Acquire, maintain, and improve the knowledge and skills required to perform basic aspects of patient care competently in the infusion and venom clinics.

Give a high standard of care to patients, adhering to their care plans and maintaining their dignity and individuality.

Assist in the undertaking and recording of basic observations, such as pulse, blood-pressure, weight, temperature, and others when required.

Ensure that those clinical procedures carried out by the Clinical Support Worker are documented properly in accordance with Trust policy.

Assist in taking telephone messages with appropriate referral and appropriate documentation.

Have a basic knowledge of the infusion patients' needs and the appropriate underlying theory necessary.

Perform urinalysis when required and record result.

Assist with clinic audits.

Give refreshments to infusion patients when required.

Give accurate and appropriate feedback to the immunology nurses on the care given to the patients and any changes in their condition.

Keep clinic tidy, clean chairs and equipment following Trust Infection Control standards and cleaning/decontamination protocols.

Organise own workload, demonstrating skills of time-management and prioritisation.

Act as a chaperone to medical staff when required in the examination of patients.

Assist with the storage and removal of used linen.

Check sharps bins at each clinic and close and replace as necessary following Trust policy.

Seek support for self and others following an untoward incident.

Report and raise concerns in relation to poor practice, attitude, and behaviour of any health care professional through appropriate channels.

Ensure that prior to using any specific medical device you have been trained and deemed competent and that is documented. Report any concerns immediately and any faults to the relevant department and ensure it is removed from service.

As required undertake equipment checks and update records and restock items as required.
