The opportunity has arisen to join an industry leader within the European Data Centre sector as a Senior Mechanical Estimator. Alternative Heat specialise in the design, offsite prefabrication and onsite installation of prefabricated mechanical and electrical services for new build Data Centre projects throughout Europe, with a core focus on mechanical fit-out and supply of packaged mechanical and electrical plantrooms.
Due to continued growth, we are looking to integrate a Senior Mechanical Estimator to support our growing Commercial team. Alternative Heat currently turn over in excess of 70m, with turnover set to grow strongly in the next few years in line with market growth projections. Typical Data Centre project values range from 10m - 25m, with a strong inbound enquiry stream from an establish and growing, repeat business client base.
Role
Reporting to the Estimating Lead you will be an essential part of the Commercial Team responsible for assisting in the preparation of accurate costings for projects. You will be joining a key team experiencing significant growth and traction in the marketplace.
Day-to-day estimating will include costing of Data Centre prefabricated fit-out packages to include design, offsite manufacture and onsite install of mechanical distribution (risers and laterals) and bespoke prefabricated mechanical and electrical plantroom solutions.
The Senior Mechanical Estimator will be responsible for generating detailed mechanical takeoffs for turnkey Data Centre projects which will involve liaising with a wide range of suppliers to obtain accurate quotations for specialist equipment.
You will liaise with our Contract Managers, Purchasing department & wider Commercial department in order to generate a seamless link from initial costing through to design, installation and completion for each project. You will also assist in completing detailed post-job analysis to review where jobs have finished so that continuous improvement can be achieved.

Key Responsibilities
Preparation of tender/enquiry review pack to help inform bid/no bid decisions.
Ability to read & review schematics & designs prior to completing any take off.
Complete mechanical take offs from schematics & 3-D designs and collate into material & labour costs.
Costing of wide range of Data Centre prefabricated fit-out packages to include design, offsite manufacture and onsite install of mechanical distribution (risers and laterals) and bespoke prefabricated plantroom solutions.
Input take offs into mechanical estimating software package & review.
Liaise with commercial team to analyse labour requirements for each project and pull together associated costs for review.
Obtain & review specialist supplier & sub-contractor's quotes.
To attend site meetings alongside design engineers & contracts managers as required both pre & post contract award.
Prepare handover pack & attend internal post award meetings for successful projects to discuss and review breakdown of estimate with delivery team.
Quantity take-off, BOQ preparation and unit rate buildups.
Liaise and train junior estimators involved in pricing Data Centre projects.
Complete a detailed post job analysis to review where Data Centre project costs have finished so that continuous improvement can be achieved.
Any other duties deemed necessary by management.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Third level qualification in a Mechanical, Quantity Surveying or Cost Engineering discipline or can demonstrate an equivalent level of experience.
Minimum of 5 years' experience
in a mechanical estimating role, on Mechanical projects from high-level budget enquiries; detailed design pricing; to full tender pricing.
Knowledge of commercial conditions and the need for attention to detail.
Working knowledge of labour, plant, materials and equipment rates.
Experience in reading & understanding schematics and completing detailed take-offs.
Experience in Microsoft Office applications - to include Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
Ability to take ownership of their duties and a willingness to grow and learn within their team and the company.
Experience of working in a fast-paced environment.
