Senior Mechanical Engineer
Crawley
As a Senior Mechanical Engineering in the ISR Hardware Team you will provide diverse skills, knowledge, expertise and experience in the mechanical design of equipment for multiple platform environments from submarines to aircraft.
The role will require the engineer to operate within multi-functional project/product teams over a complete programme life cycle from Bid Phase to In-service Support.
The mechanical design of complex, high performance sub-systems in short timescales requires the use of advanced engineering tools - those in use include leading products such as CREO 3D CAD, Flotherm Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and CREO Simulate Geometric Element Analysis (GEA).
Experience:
Relevant design experience in a similar field with a good understanding of computer techniques, ideally a Pro/Engineer CAD user.
The candidate shall have a proven ability to undertake structural and thermal analysis, ideally using FEA/GEA (PTC Pro-Mechanica/CREO Simulate) and CFD tools (Flotherm).
Working knowledge of MoD/Mil procedures and specifications.
Experience in the direction and encouragement of mechanical designers and working in close cooperation with associated project engineers of various disciplines.
Experience in the design of equipment for military environments eg 19\xe2\x80\x9d racks, cardframes, electronic modules, and surveillance sensors.
Experience in deriving environmental requirements for land, sea and air platforms eg Temperature, shock and vibration etc.
Experience in designing for EMC.
Experience in electronics cooling design.
Good knowledge of materials and finishes for harsh environments.
Experience in supporting/overseeing qualification testing.
Experience in design of composite structures.
Generation of technical reports.
Configuration control within the 3D CAD environment \xe2\x80\x93 IntraLink/PDMLink and external product data management tools, e.g. Palma, Team Centre.
Qualifications Required
Degree in mechanical/aeronautical engineering, alternatively HNC/HND with relevant experience.
