The Lancaster Environment Centre is one of the world\'s largest centres for environmental research and teaching. Our mission is to perform world-leading fundamental research, using that research to advance understanding across society and to help solve global environmental challenges. A critical part of our endeavour is teaching and developing people to live within, and contribute positively to, more sustainable places and environments. We wish to appoint one new Senior lecturer in Soil Ecosystem Science on a permanent research and teaching contract.
We are particularly looking for candidates with research and teaching expertise in plant-soil and ecosystem science. Relevant research areas include soil ecology, ecosystem biogeochemistry, and biodiversity and the impacts of climate change, agriculture and land use on soil ecosystem properties and functions. Skills that range across disciplines and scales would be an advantage in this key role to lead and innovate in this area.
We are seeking applications from experienced people with demonstrable ability to deliver research-led teaching and a similarly strong commitment to providing outstanding student learning experiences. Teaching largely comprises in-person delivery including seminar and field-based approaches. Most of the teaching is delivered collaboratively with other staff members, who will support you with your teaching activities. You will be involved in the full teaching and learning cycle from developing new material, utilising and updating existing material, delivering to large classes and to smaller groups, and assessing and marking in addition to general academic support for our students.
There will be other teaching responsibilities including dissertation and PhD supervision and contributions to field courses at undergraduate level across Years 1, 2 and 3. There will also opportunities to for postgraduate teaching.
