This role is with the Drainage and Lineside team within the wider team of the Chief Engineer, Buildings and Civils, in the Technical Authority. We work to provide the business and our customers with technical leadership and specialist expertise in Drainage and Lineside Asset Management. Our role is to find creative technical solutions to problems, deliver innovation, to set effective strategy and policy and to provide strong competence and assurance regimes that make sure we do things effectively.

What does the average day look like?
The role of Senior Engineer [Buildings & Civils] is a multifaceted role in that you will undertake various duties including (but not limited to):
\xc2\xb7 Provide expert advice input and support associated with the provision of services for our customers and suppliers.
\xc2\xb7 Support professional leadership for a lineside engineering discipline.
\xc2\xb7 Provide expert advice, support and input to technical accident and incident investigations.
\xc2\xb7 Support the setting of policies and strategies, operational processes and systems. Manage the design and delivery of programmes for the development of technical capability required within Network Rail, including effective training materials.
\xc2\xb7 Provide the technical input to the development of the standards, specifications, means of compliance and metrics, including system risks. Support engineering analysis and risk assessment, including assessment of applications for derogations and non-compliance.
\xc2\xb7 Liaise with product manufacturers, including external stakeholder e.g. TOC and provide input into the acceptance processes.
\xc2\xb7 Proactively research and respond to changes in the internal and external requirements and practice which impact upon policy and standards.
\xc2\xb7 Identify opportunities for technical and business process improvement and innovation, developing business cases where required.
\xc2\xb7 Support Engineering Verification activities.
\xc2\xb7 Act as Delivery Manager for delivery of a specific project or portfolio of projects and deliver projects to time, cost and quality.
\xc2\xb7 Represent Network Rail externally to the industry and input to European issues as required. Represent Technical Authority within Network Rail.
What essential skills and experiences are required?

2. Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of experience (Level 6)
3. Membership of a relevant technical body
4. Broad technical engineering experience
5. Project or financial planning and management experience
6. Desirable chartered status or working towards
