As a Senior Desktop Solutions Architect focused on driving innovation, you will play a pivotal role in leading the development and management of systems and processes for the University\'s Windows Supported Desktop.

We are seeking a Solutions Architect who will naturally connect with others, foster open communication, and demonstrate outstanding interpersonal skills. Your personable and approachable demeanour will be instrumental in driving collaboration amongst team members and stakeholders.

The official job title for this role will be Senior Computing Officer, and as a key member of our team you will lead and manage projects, collaborating with talented individuals who share your passion for enhancing the digital experience of staff and students. In this role, you will have the opportunity to inspire and motivate others, creating an inclusive and dynamic work environment that nurtures the sharing of ideas in alignment with the University\'s vision.

The service infrastructure directly affects all staff and students at the University of Edinburgh who use computer-based applications from personal computers. This currently extends to approximately 20,000 computer systems providing services to over 10,000 staff and 40,000 students. You will be responsible for will coordinate the work of other team members on specific technical development projects for the entire University population.

By crafting innovative strategies and deploying advanced technologies, the post-holder will play a pivotal role in shaping an optimised, secure, and future-ready desktop ecosystem, empowering users to thrive in our digital landscape.

To succeed in this role, you will need specialist knowledge of Microsoft Systems Centre Configuration Manager (SCCM), proficiency in ITIL best practices, and substantial experience in large-scale endpoint administration. You will be a visionary who can effectively communicate with colleagues, stakeholders, and senior decision makers, ensuring the seamless delivery of services.

The University of Edinburgh is a vibrant campus-based University, and our Information Services Group is currently offering a hybrid-working model with a 2:3 ratio of in-office and remote home-working, meaning the successful candidate would be required to work on-site 2 days per week, and would have the option of working on campus or remotely the rest of the week. This is subject to change in line with University policy.

Candidates who meet the below criteria are encouraged to apply:
  • Comprehensive expertise in managing Microsoft Windows Operating System within enterprise environments including Image deployment, Group Policies and software distribution.
  • Extensive knowledge of networking technologies, PowerShell scripting, Registry, WMI, and / or other related management and automation tools
  • Deep understanding of desktop security principles and experience implementing security measures.
  • Demonstrable experience of providing expert-level technical support
  • Proven ability to accurately assess risks and provide advice to colleagues at all levels
  • Proven ability to influence change and to lead, manage, and motivate others
  • Experience of working with senior decision makers and decision-making processes
  • Evidence of excellent organisational skills, written and oral communication skills, and inter-personal relationship development

The division also provides infrastructure technologies such as authentication and authorisation used by University I.T. services.
