DESCRIPTION
As a Data Center Senior Construction Manager you will be a part of a creative, efficient team tasked with tackling fascinating and challenging problems building and supporting the operations of Amazon data centers. Amazon Construction Managers are part of a fast-paced team delivering data centers for our Customers. Our data centers are industry leading examples of energy efficient, cost effective designs.
The Data Center Senior Construction Manager is ultimately responsible for the oversight and review of all disciplines including civil, structural, architectural electrical, mechanical, controls and commissioning. The Construction Manager will administer all construction contracts and lease contracts ensuring full compliance including all commercial elements for a specific data centre site.
Our Data Center Construction team owns and drives the construction life cycle from constructability, proposal development, bid analysis, award, to managing the onsite construction work.
The manager will be expected to dive deep and know construction management; inspire and think big about the construction management program; and support, grow, and nurture the team delivering efficient and sophisticated electrical and mechanical systems to our Customers.
The position will be based on a data centre construction site in the Hertfordshire/Thames Valley region to the west/north of London. There may be future opportunities for international working/travel if desired.
Key job responsibilities
The Data Centre Senior Construction Manager will be responsible for:
Construction project management and oversight of construction related activities as they relate to new builds or general capital projects at a specific data centre site. This will include the ownership of the project scope, timeline, and budget.
Direct interface with construction general contractors during the bidding, award, execution, and project closeout/punch list phases.
Work with general contractors and vendors to deliver efficient and high quality project turn-overs.
Lead negotiations with general contractors and evaluate bids/proposals with detail and accuracy.
Creation of construction project scope and request for proposals.
Capital requests/financial analysis of construction work including change orders, purchase orders, and invoicing.
Construction project management for specific initiatives aimed at increasing the resiliency of our data centres.
Reviews of electrical and mechanical designs associated with the construction of new data centres or the optimisation of existing data centres.
Construction submittal review.
Construction project quality control including the creation of a commissioning plan and support of the commissioning process.
Recording and reporting key construction metrics to team members and management.
Be a leader within the group as well as within internal and external teams that support the data centre.
Role will be based on data centre sites in construction.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor\'s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or an equivalent engineering science OR 4+ years of related construction management experience in lieu of a degree.
- 4+ years of general contractor and vendor experience (request for proposals, bidding, change orders, quality control, RFI/submittal tracking) associated with construction and project execution.
- 4+ years of experience directly constructing electrical engineering systems including large scale power distribution/generation gear and constructing mechanical engineering systems including cooling systems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years experience in construction of mission critical facilities
- Experience directly related to the design or construction of data centers.
- Understand electrical engineering best practices including breaker coordination studies, switch gear sequence of operation, and NEC code.
- Understand mechanical engineering principles for cooling systems.
- Experience with large scale technical operations or large-scale compute farms.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA.
- Ability to define data center system-level architecture, specify/document performance and equipment requirements, create/communicate conceptual designs, and create/maintain project documentation.
- Ability and willingness to find creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs and duration with no impact on quality and reliability.
- Perform business case analysis to justify project scope and financial position for management review
- Knowledge and experience with large scale power systems.
- Possess clear written and verbal communication skills and ability to use data to justify conclusions
