Accountabilities/ Responsibilities of the role:

Practitioner duties

1. To identify and meet the care, support and learning needs of service users and contribute to the development and quality assurance of informal learning activities and of the service.

2. Supervise the service users effectively at the service, during outings and trips and during escorting of service users from place of education to the service. Be aware of and be responsible for the safety and security of service users. Take day to day responsibility with the team to ensure the service users have consistent good care.

3. Organise and deliver appropriate service events/activities as required, in conjunction with Senior Practitioner and Service Manager.

4. Manage personal day-to-day work profile in keeping with service demands, within agreed timescales and as directed by the Senior Practitioner and Service Manager.

5. Maintain confidential records within an effective filing system, working closely & liaising with the service management team as appropriate. Ensure effective communication of service user's individual care needs within the team, reporting to the Senior Practitioner and/ or Service Manager as appropriate.

6. Liaise effectively with service user's caregivers and encourage care-giver involvement.

7. Ensure that all work carried out within your area of responsibility meets the requirements and needs of the Health and Social care standards, SSSC codes of practice and PVG Disclosure Scotland.

8. Undertake annual training and CPD.

Supervisory duties

1. Manage service day to day work profile in keeping with service demands, within agreed timescales and as directed by the Service Manager and Deputy Service Manager.

2. Support and supervise the Practitioner team in the service day to day work profile.

3. Work alongside the Deputy Service Manager to facilitate an effective and suitable key worker system for each child within the service.

4. Work alongside the Service Management team and Practitioner team to ensure any issues or concerns within the service are addressed quickly and effectively.

5. Use effective communication with the Service Management team, Practitioner team, Parents and Carers using the service.

6. Ensuring that all child pick-ups are covered on a daily/ weekly basis.

7. Oversee the preparation and delivery of the daily program of activities.

8. Contribute to the service strategic plan with management.

9. Any other duties deemed necessary by the Service Manager and Deputy Service Manager.

Generic Activity for Senior Support Worker/ Practitioner

Main purpose of the role:

The main purpose of this role is to provide and contribute to, and to supervise the Practitioner team in the provision of care services to an agreed specification and quality standards. The role will require a minimum of day-to-day supervision from the service Management team, but clear guidance will be given. Initiative is needed to resolve problems based on judgement and experience, mainly without reference to others.

Typical Work Activities



? Adhere to service Health & Safety Policies and Procedures.

? Ensure that the Practitioner team complete care plans and paperwork effectively and that timescales and deadlines are met.

? Ensure daily practices are completed effectively and efficiently.

? Contribute to short term projects within the service.

Communication and Networking



? Communicate effectively with service users, service users' caregivers, the service team, and the service management team.

? Deal with matters of a sensitive nature that require tact and diplomacy.

? Provide effective feedback.

? Act as the first line of contact for service users.

? Supervise the circulation of information to caregivers.

? Provide advice to colleagues, service users and caregivers based on knowledge and experiences of policies and procedures.

Planning and Organising



? Prioritise your own work within a general plan or schedule to meet deadlines and appropriate standards and assist Management team in planning for future work.

? Manage personal day-to-day work profile in keeping with service demands, within agreed timescales and as directed by line management.

? Ensure all service equipment and facilities are maintained and stored effectively.

? Assist in preparation and delivery of snacks, adhering to effective food hygiene standards.

Resource Management (Records)



? Ensure that all children's records and care plans are properly completed and kept up to date.

? Understand and adhere to GDPR legislation.

Stakeholder Management



? Actively participate in and supervise the Practitioner team.

? Deal with service users' care-giver queries, often requiring tact, discussion, and negotiation, understanding when to refer queries onto the Service Management Team.

? Be confident to pass on any concerns regarding children's behaviour or developmental issues to the Service Management Team.

Management of Work Environment



? An understanding of all service policies and procedures.

? An understanding of appropriate health and safety regulations and procedures.

Teamwork and Collaboration



? Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the team.

? Supervise the Practitioner team as required.
