A fantastic opportunity became available for an enthusiastic
Senior Buyer
to join our Procurement team to help us improve the local environment and create a great internal environment for our employees to grow with the business and become part of a team supporting the NHS and other global healthcare institutions for the next generation of discerning patients.
You will be reporting to the Procurement Manager and be based at our modern office in Newmarket (Unisurge International Limited, Farboud Innovation Park, Formula Drive, Newmarket, CB8 0BF).
As a Senior Buyer you will:
Be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing goods and services required by the company. This role involves managing supplier relationships, ensuring cost-effectiveness, quality, and timely delivery of products, and contributing to the development of the procurement strategy. The Senior Buyer will also mentor other team members and collaborate with various departments to support company objectives. An understanding of Sustainable Procurement and Supply Chain processes would be a positive to bring to this position as Unisurge are actively working towards our sustainability goals as a responsible leader within the local community and the wider healthcare industry.
Your key responsibilities and accountabilities will be:
Procurement Strategy:
Develop and implement procurement strategies to ensure the cost-effective acquisition of materials and services.
Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
Supplier Management:
Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers based on quality, cost, and reliability.
Negotiate contracts, terms, and conditions with suppliers.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers.
Conduct regular performance reviews and audits of suppliers to ensure compliance with contractual agreements.
Purchasing:
Manage the end-to-end procurement process, from requisition to purchase order issuance and delivery.
Ensure timely delivery of goods and services to meet operational needs.
Monitor and manage inventory levels to prevent overstocking or stockouts.
Cost Control:
Analyse market trends and pricing to ensure competitive pricing.
Identify and implement cost reduction opportunities.
Monitor and report on purchasing expenditures.
Quality Assurance:
Ensure all purchased products meet the required quality standards.
Address and resolve any quality issues with suppliers.
Team Leadership:
Mentor and provide guidance to junior buyers and procurement staff.
Foster a collaborative and high-performance team environment.
Compliance:
Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Maintain accurate procurement records and documentation.
Collaboration:
Work closely with internal stakeholders, including production, finance, and contracts, to align procurement activities with business objectives.
Participate in cross-functional teams to support company projects and initiatives.

1. Accountable to - Procurement Manager
2. Responsible for - Purchasing team members during Purchasing Manager absence.
3. Internal - Purchase Team Members and all other departments as and when required.
4. External - All Vendors
Education and Experience:
Education:
CIPS or equivalent professional certification.
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
Experience:
Ideally 5-10 years of experience in procurement, with at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory role.
Experience in medical supply or healthcare industry would be beneficial.
Skills and Attributes:
Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Proficiency in procurement software and ERP/MRP systems.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
Other:
Ability to travel as needed.
Strong understanding of supply chain management principles.
This position may require occasional travel to supplier sites and industry events.
The role is primarily office-based, 5 days per week in Newmarket (Suffolk).
Current shift pattern
: Monday - Friday / 09:00 - 17:00.
