Working as part of the Compound Synthesis & Management (CS&M) department \xe2\x80\x93 a delivery focused team where we collaborate to support projects aiming to impact patients\xe2\x80\x99 lives. We are responsible for AstraZeneca\xe2\x80\x99s compound collection and it\xe2\x80\x99s application to drug discovery projects. We belong in Discovery Sciences \xe2\x80\x93 our wider function that applies deep technical expertise in specialist technologies to support the delivery of targets and molecules to the early AstraZeneca pipeline.

What you\xe2\x80\x99ll do
In this varied and exciting position you will be supporting drug discovery by conducting LC-MS analyses for the purity assessment of novel small molecules newly registered into the AZ compound collection. You will also use LC-MS platforms to triage assay hits generated via high throughput screening assays for both AstraZeneca and external partners.
In addition, we will support you to seek out and conduct your own projects that interest you, using LC-MS in conjunction with other analytical techniques as appropriate. Current examples include instrument development and workflow automation, optimising sample integrity and dispense strategies, and supplying data to develop predictive models to facilitate more sustainable operations.

Essential for the role
A good LC-MS background with strong MS interpretation skills are fundamental for the role, with attention to detail essential to provide the best datasets for projects and partners.
A proactive attitude with a delivery focus will be needed to enable timely decision-making for stakeholders across drug discovery functions.
We work collaboratively to tight delivery schedules, so working at a fast, goal-orientated pace, with a team-focused approach is crucial.
We also believe you have:
A BSc/MSc or related qualification in biochemistry/chemistry
A background in UHPLC-MS instrument operation, underpinned by a good understanding of relevant operational software e.g. Waters MassLynx\xe2\x84\xa2
Strong mass spectrometric interpretation skills and an understanding of fragmentation pathways
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and implement improvement activities
A real passion for science, technology and innovation with a strong research focus
Desirable
An interest in new technologies and approaches, with a willingness to innovate and help define the future direction of analytical support for drug discovery
A knowledge of Compound Management operation and drug discovery assays
A working knowledge of Waters OpenLynx\xe2\x84\xa2 Open Access Application Manager
